For Sale - IT stuff

Post by MrWasabi »

$50 pickup! get farked if you think im gonna post it!

Ive got a surplus of switches and hubs, managed and unmanaged id like to get rid of.
Thought id post it up here as there are a few technogeeks amongst us

D-Link DES-3224 24port rack mountable switch
D-Link DES-1024 24 port switch - 1 with dual fiber uplink and the other with dual Ethernet uplink
Cisco 4500-m Router (apparently can be made to work with optusnet cable, haven't tried and haven't bothered looking into it) missing front cover but power on
HPJ3202A
3COM 3C16464C
SURECOM EP-816DX-N2

All D-Links with the exeption of the 1024's have been tested as in they boot up and i can see it though a console window.
Everything else turns on, but thats as far as i got with them, some devices have noisy fans, which i am in the process of fixing, but they work none the less.

Actually, I have a question for all you computer geeks. What is the best internet security for us to put on our new laptop?

Personally i think having at least a router as well as software firewall/antivirus/anti-malware is a good idea as it just provides a little more resiliancy. In the past i would have recommended kerio personal firewall, but they dragged their feet ridiculously with getting a vista/7 compatible version. I'm happy with the software firewall from pctools, however i've heard alright things about their anti malware/antivirus. Although personally i use avast antivirus.

Using this combination, I generally have to do something pretty stupid like visit a dodgy site with old versions of browsers & flash to get hit with any malicious websites.

Windows 7 essentials seems to work ok and thats all I use these days and occasional online trendmicro on demand online scan, malwarebytes is a good scanning tool for bugware, comodo make a reasonable free firewall/antivirus package.

Harden up the router software, stealth all ports, dont open anything suspicious.Make sure you update windows security updates as a minimum, usualy the first or 2nd? tuesday of the month.

Even the best geeks and geekware wont stop the your "unlucky to be the first affected before a fix comes attack".
Antivirus software is reactionary by nature.
