Full Car License Learner Rider License and Demerit Points?

I have seen this briefly mentioned in one or two other threads but thought I'd put it here so it may be easier to find.

I've had my learner rider for a bit over a month and a half now and had been wondering this since I got it.

Full car license but learner rider license.....how do the demerit points work???

The following is directly from my "My RTA" records;

You currently hold the following licence class(es):

Class C Unrestricted
Class R Learner


You have a total of 0 demerit point(s) on your licence.

Both licence classes will be suspended if your total demerit points reach or exceed 13.

The Learner class only will be suspended if you reach or exceed 4 points for offences committed while using the Learner class.

Interpret as you will but I see it as this;
-I only accrue demerit points on my riders license if Im on my bike (i.e. - in car and accrue points I can still accrue 4 points on my bike before losing my riders license)
-If I lose my car license, I lose both licenses.
-If I accrue points whilst on my bike they are also accrued on my car license

It is not by any means absolutely clear and so DO NOT TAKE WHAT I SAY AS GOSPEL

If someone knows more definitively or interprets it differently please comment.

yep seems about correct.

You still only get 4 demerit points on your P's rider. So if you lose those they come off your driver's licence as well but since you have more than 4 to lose on a DL then you still can drive whilst your RL is suspended

Went through a similar thing recently before all the new laws in Nsw came in. I got my full rider licence at 18 but was on my car p2 lost 6 points (double demerits) and my car licence but still was able to keep my riders licence and I had 6 points left

Trox, If you don't know, learners & P1 holders who receive any speeding fines irrelevant of speed = automatic suspension.

hmmm now that you say that blackster I do remember reading that somewhere, guess I should've taken more notice, cheers.....What about if I get caught speeding, let say 8kmh over, on my full car license does this also automatically lose my L rider license because it's a speeding offence
