Hi Tim, I paid $150 for 1 year. Includes all ambulance, including air ambulance, treatment en route to hospital, New natal emergencies and covers ambulance costs if an emergency cover should occur interstate.
it paid off the day my daughter broke her arm skiing at Mt Buller
they sent an ambo by road from Mansfield but due to its being a compound break of both bones
they called up the Air Ambulance from the Alfred .........I got a bill for over $15,000 for both
and sent it back with my membership number on it. I never heard about that again....
This might be stating the obvious, but in Victoria at least the Ambo cover does not apply for accidents on the road. The Ambos will send you a bill that will need to get sent to the TAC.
alot of people have ambo cover in their health insurance & union cover...however check the small print...emergency only....I had a situation where I was rushed to one hospital, after spending 3 hrs there I was required to be transferred to another as they couldn't do what was needed at the first joint ...hospital to hospital " No Cover" lucky I always kept my ambo subscription current otherwise I was looking at $ 1800 out of pocket

when i got tipped off a few years ago and carted off to Royal melbourne...I just told the Ambos, when we got to hospital, I was a paid up subscriber
never heard anymore about it (guess the TAC and the Ambulance service talked)

In NSW the Ambo can talk directly with health funds and if your covered you don't need to even get involved. Same for hosp cover here and the hosp even waives any excess if you use your fund over going public as they still get paid by the fund instead of no cost treatment.
