The new Roads Minister, Duncan Gay, has ordered a revue of all speed cameras, individually and as a whole. The apparent independant Auditor general will investigate If they improve road safety or just raise revenue. Heard on radio today that if they are only about revenue they will be removed Lib's seem to be getting on with the job as promised
Who wants to bet there are more than the 172 existing cameras, at the end of the Libs first term?
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

Im all for the speed cameras in the school zones during school hours and i dont have kids!
If they are serious then move the ones in the middle of nowhere and put them in thew school areas.
Just my opinion anyway.
I'm OK with school zone speed cameras as long as they also have the flashing lights ......
Also OK with the red light/speed cams ......
But I'm still willing to bet there will be more revenue cams in 4 years than at present.

yes but I would like to have the non school time speed advertised as well.
I still dont know what the actual normal speed limit is on King Georges RD through Beverlly Hill and also on Northern Road at Penrith near St Doms.
No where around there is the normal speed advertised

I don't mind the school zones either, but someone should make sure they are relevant. My local high school has the school zone out the front where probably and handfull of kids come and go. But 300 metres down the road, where hundreds of kids come and go, it's 80 kph all day long

I reckon most people don't know, so stay under 40, especially near St Doms. I think they are both 70 zones, but I stay under 60 just in case

yeah my local school zone is over 1km long as it is a primary and High school side by side. The footpath is at least 10metres off the side of the road behind bush.
It has flashing lights but what makes it hilarious is that the school starts for both schools at 7.55am and finishes at 2.15pm. So the slow times arent even in effect when the kids are out and they have all buggered off whilst we have to slow down for the next hour and a half every morning and arvo

School zone speed cameras are the most evil piece of crap ever invented!!! Penant Hills road from James Ruse Dr all the the way to almost Carlingford Station is a single school zone. Every piece of shit is doing 40 along there in BOTH lanes regardless of the time. The speed camera on the hill on Carlingford road has idiots doing 40 through it at 7pm at night! Actually, I dont mind the cameras there so much as they take idiot drivers and make them do even more idiotic things than they normally would. This safety camera crap is a bit rich too. Of the safety cams I go through, NONE of them are at intersections where I have EVER seen an accident.
Back on topic: It depends on by what criteria they define that cameras are "making things safer." Define that loosely enough and it's all just a bit of publicity. I see one or two cams coming down and 6 months later we'll see 10 others go up. But, if that doesn't happen I will gladly eat a straw hat
See here, young man,
From Walgett to the sea,
From Conroy's Gap to Castlereagh,
There's none can ride like me.
