Something very weird happened yesterday!!!

Post by vivek67 »

So, yesterdays ride was awesome. Started on time, did kinglake and the spurs.

On the way back, it was just me, Mal and Mike. We were finished for the day and heading home. We'd stopped for the last time at St andrews and Mike had to fuel up soon before heading home. Mal and I also decided to make way for home. So we shook hands and jumped on the bikes.

Passed diamond creek and then this happened just before we reached greensborough? Speed limit on the road was about 70 kmph. The guys and I were riding at speed limit. Suddenly, I felt a sharp cut through my throat. It felt like someone had slit my throat with a blade. I was so taken aback with this pain I couldn't shake it off for a bit. It was a 70 zone and cars behind me and no where to make an immediate stop. I took my left hand off the handle bar and tried to feel my neck. I thought I'd be bleeding or something. So I rubbed my fingers on my neck and tried to see if it was actual blood. Turns out, NOTHING!

I thought in some very weird way the skin on my throat got trapped with the jacket zip and thats why it hurt so bad. The pain continued. Eventually Mike pulled over to a servo and Mal waved good byes and turned.

I was so occupied with the pain, I missed my turn at Bundoora and ended up going too far towards the city. Finally turned around and made way to Reservoir and home.

Wife thought I was knackered because we did a long trip, but I was just in such a bad state with this excruciating pain on my throat. I took the gear off and told the wife it hurt there. After careful examination she saw a tiny 'hole' around my adam's apple. She got the reading light from the bedroom and inspected it closely.

She pulled out from my throat what looked like a super fine less than 2mm in length. It was a stinger. A FUCKING BEE STING whilst riding at 70 and full gear on. The unfortunate bee managed to get to my throat from in between my riding jacket and Shark helmet.

Anyway today, it looks like I have a table tennis BALL on my neck!

But no regrets, yesterday was still an awesome ride! :kuda:

yeah bugs do that, had a few crawl around under my jacket and you just wait for the bite, if not your good to go and leave it there, unnerving all the same.

I hear a certain someone who I wont name (Possum) got bee stung on the butt on the way back to vic :P

So look out for coppers with bees coming out of their mouths, they all sting aye ;)

Shit Viveck, that's a pity to take the shine off the ride a little with a bee sting. Bit unlucky, I've been riding a long time and have only been stung a couple of times.

So how are you recovering anyway? I still need you to explain me why a Harley isn't a good idea. :D

Just too add my two bobs worth. At least with a bee you only get stung once. I had a wasp drop into my jacket on the way to work a few years ago. Peak hour traffic, nowhere safe to stop so I rode on for another 4kms to work. Got to work and peeled off my gear in the car park, with onlookers wondering what was going on. 3 bites at different locations on my chest. I'm luckier than some, while the the stings hurt and itch like a bastard for a few days, I don't appear to be allergic.

They are a slow, heavy unreliable piece of crap, which lives off a tough guy reputation. Does that clarify things for you mate? :D :D

Slow, I understand, its a different style of riding. I am not breaking any lap records on a sports bike either :D

Unreliable - That I did not know about. I thought these were a very stable, true and tried technology over the years. My impression was that they might not have all the electronics as a space shuttle but they do the basics right? Apparently not hey?

Digging deep down what I'd want from my next bike (whenever that eventuates):

1. Must be ride-able everyday. So not a dirt bike or a hayabusa or a Moped!!!
2. Awesome sounding exhaust - (Akrapovic on a 250 sounds pretty ordinary)
3. A bit more power than my 250 but not super sport 600cc power. I find there isn't a middle ground between a 250 and 600cc super sport.

I thought, the harley ticked all the boxes except the handling bit.

The other thing that made me not so excited about Harleys is that I could never ride in the hills on one of them.

Thoughts?

Mid Ground = SV650 ;) have owned two carb models & being a V twin they have plenty of torque & have more than enough speed for heading up in the hills.
NB: not the LAMS restricted models
