Thoughts on KLR650

Post by tomithy »

Hi all,

I've been toying with the idea of picking up a dual sport to do some long distance 'adventure' touring and was wondering what you guys thought about the KLR 650's. At the moment I'm in a position to pick up a 1997 KLR650 for about $2,000, which seems like a good deal to me but want to hear your thoughts on the matter.

The idea is to give it a good once over, fit some aluminium panniers and take off for some extended trips around Australia as time permits and - who knows - maybe even internationally

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Tom.

Try and find one already set up. It's the cheaper option in the long run usually.

Tom, i'm in Coburg Nth, pm me some time and you can take mine for a run, if ya like it then 2k is a good price, if ya don't you've lost nothing. Have a read up on klr650.net a wealth of info there and it will suggest some must do mods too.

A bit under powered when fully loaded a cheap staintune and a carbie slide will fix that but pretty much bullet proof... a XR650 with a dessert tank would be sweet in that price range...

Picked up my GS about a month back
