To get the air fuel ratio checked i assume you need to have it on a dyno. Question is, if they find that it is out, either lean or rich, can they fix it there and then or do i need to get a PC3 or some other fancy thing?

The oem ecu should correct the a/f to be correct constantly. To map it differently you will need a pc3

Im guessing you need to have some type unit inwhich the dyno techie can connect too, which is where the Pc3/pcv come into the party.

Are they able to connect straight to the harness????

Ive just installed a Pcv with auto tune with a map that is more suited to my bits. ;)

They poke a big anal probe into the exhaust and that checks the a/f ratio. They tune from that.

If you are taking it to a dyno make sure you have the kleen system blocked off.

well i have a suspicion that it could be running lean so i was going to get it checked...but from what Russ is saying it should automatically correct itself so my suspicions are invalid

nevertheless ill get it checked and see whats going on, no doubt they will try and sell me a pc3 anyway...

bike is running hot and ive done everything you can think of to get it sorted

From what I have been told by a few people/owners/mechanics that they do generally run hotter.

I am going to manually richen mine up via the PCV and see I that helps.

We have had identical bikes running side by side, same cold start & she is hotter :?
Even with roll ons a check shows it running hotter.

Have you had a full service including the air filter and plugs changed and the valve clerences checked? I've been told these can be iffy with a dirty air cleaner.

Other than that, flush oil, check oil pump is getting pressure to the top of the motor and change the coolant.

I can't for sure say if the zx6/10's run this way but most EFI systems have both closed & open maps so depending on load, throttle pos, gear,speed, etc depends on whether it uses the the Wideband sensor or not. Normally when Wide open throttle or heavy load is occuring you go to a map that was pre done that ignores the Wideband sensor. Or if light load or cruising is happening it will use the Wideband sensor to lean the fuel out as much as possible )fuel economy emmisoions).

The only true way to correct this is a powercommander type setup or a OEM Ecu remap, remember any mods motor wise will have an affect on AFR, Powercommanders are great value for money especially if you go to a dyno shop who has tuning centre software. This will remap so it is perfectly matched to your specific mods on the bike to meet a target AFR (e.g. 13.2).

A Hotter running engine can occur from lean out best bet is to get a quick AFR check done on the dyno, make sure the AIS is disabled prior to AFR readings (dyno shop should know about that).

Its not a big bang for your buck, but why not, it improved my mid by a few HP but the torque was extra nice for riding the Adelaide Hills which are tight and dirty.
