2011 zx10r verses BMW S1000r - Interesting Info.

Post by MadKaw »

As we all know, the new zx10r was brought out to better the current 1000 cc superbike test winner the BMW S1000r, but in some tests it appears that it didn't - on paper anyway.
There has been some suggestion that a lot of the test bikes supplied by BMW may have not been exactly standard, there is also some suggestion that some magazine reports may have been altered when it appeared the BMW wasn't the best.

Someone has done some research on this and sent me the following. You make your own mind up.

------

This is some of the information I have found. If you go to the BMW Australia web site this has the Power and Torque figures for the BMW S1000RR. You will notice the BMW max torque amount is 112N-m / 9,750 rpm, this is relative important. Their max power is 142kW / 13,000 rpm.
The ZX10r figures are the same max torque value at slightly higher RPM, so 112N-m / 10,500 rpm and zx10r Max Power is rated above the BMW at 147.1kW / 13,000 rpm.

From the Fast Bike Magazine I got their Dyno Chart and Top Speed Chart before it was changed.?

Please notice that the Torque curves and Maximum Torque are of the BMW and Kawasaki are almost identical as indicated in the specs from both Manufactures.

While the zx10r power is not significant above the BMW, it is above the BMW, however in the Top Speed run it shows how affective the zx10r Ram Intake is hitting it’s top speed in 23.15 seconds whereas the BMW struggles above 170 mph and hits about 178 mph at 30 seconds.

In a file BMW Motoradd Australia sent to their Dealers, there are two bikes, one is a customers bike and another unit, they are trying to indicate that the stock bike has 186hp and the when both the ECU and Exhaust Pipe is fitted it is 195hp.

What I believe they’re showing is a bike with the BMW Power Boost Kit ECU 186hp and the other with the BMW Power Boost Exhaust Pipe and BMW Power Boost ECU 195hp.

If you read the current Cycle Torque article the information has been supplied by BMW so it talks about the BMW improving the low and mid range torque and getting 14 hp increase in power, however in BMW own Dyno charts there is no 14 hp increase.
There is a 14 hp jump from the 172hp to 186hp and then the Kit Pipe gives it 9 hp more to get to 195hp. Other wise you pay $6,000.00 for 9hp. You actually get 23 hp for the $6,000.00 so it is relative good value. However when you see the top speed shoot out the BMW needs a lot more power the keep up with the zx10r.

It also has with both parts fitted a hole, in the torque curve at 8,500 to 9,500 rpm and this makes the bike very hard to ride, and getting on the power out of corners this is because Maximum Torque is at 10,500 rpm. All the local riders who raced the BMW is FX or Superstock commented about this difficult power delivery. Glen Scott, Jeremy Crowe and Craig Coxhell.

In the Motociclismo Magazine web site it dyno figures from their dyno test at Monza, Kawasaki was just in front of the BMW but it has better Ram Air so it would have been better on a fast track like Monza, at this stage I don’t have the actual results of this test rumored to have Aprilia then BMW and then Kawasaki. Possibly this is Europe pride affecting the results as the Aprilia Factory has 161 hp.

I'm guessing most Journalist have never ridden a stock BMW or Honda or Yamaha etc.

On another note the Power of the Yamaha at 160hp and this is consistent with dynos here in Australia, the Yamaha weights 216kg so how will a stock one win in FX or Pro Stock.?

There was more info that was sent to me but some of it is top secret.. :-)

No you probly can as there results appear good for the Kwaka.. :-)

Yet AMCN get
BMW - 176 hp
ZX10r - 169 hp

Motorcycle news UK has
BMW - 188 hp
zx10r - 175 hp
I wonder if that had anything to do with BMW supplying them with a bike to race this year.. :-)
There BMW race bike has a pipe and PC and only makes 5 hp more than the "stock" bike they tested in the comparo.

Can't really compare the US spec bikes as AUS is the same as Euro spec..

More info for the conspiracy theorists..

What was published in fastbikes...

A little different to the ones on the first post.. (bmw now more HP than the 10.)
The speed run has the Kawi in Blue on this one..

It still makes the MCN no's on the BMW look a little excessive... to say the least..

as if bike and car makers havent been doctoring test bikes/cars since the beginning of time  specially when bmw went around making the claims they did... they could hardly been seen to fail at their one aim with the bmw, to have the most powerful litre bike...

I wonder if the S1000RR forums have graphs which show it differently? Either one is probably way more than any of us could use.

It still amazes me. My ZX6R F1 which i mobile chicaned for a few years had 100-105hp and was 160kgs. Riding that flat out scares fuck out of me. Even today ridingvit in anger is scary. Riding my 140hp 200kg on a track scared fuck outta me. Hanging mid 40's. On my 2005 636, scared fuck outta me. I can't imagine even riding a gumby or a crim or a whatever litrr bike at full bottle. Not like i ride the 600 racer anyway.
