Fuel pump, fuel hoses, fuel tap and carb strip is what fixed my 1994 zx9 which did the same.

yeah did that and problem went away, but the gremlin has returned.

Glenn at Allfixed is probably trying to look after you. If you demand he does it straight away and he has to put off other paying work he'd be closer to having to charge you every minute he spends on the thing like your other mechanics have. Let him have it when he's got some down time and if I was a betting man I'd put money on him fixing it for less than you imagined and you coming on here and making a thread saying how good the guy is.

I use Motorcycle Weaponry in Mona Vale and they are very good! they also have a Dyno which may make it easier to dignose the problem?

Sounds like the perfect guy for the job, i didn't demand that he does it straight away. it was quite the opposite, i said whenever he could fit me in would be great. maybe i'm just so frustrated that i took it the wrong way, cheers for the reply it has given me hope that my baby will finally be fixed

It's not necessarily a matter of dis interest , more so when bikes get this old it can and often is a 'can o worms' just getting to what might be the problem ie siezed / brocken bolts , accident damage , cracked fairings , oil leaks etc etc .

Unfortunately , buying an older second hand bike and NOT being capable of maintaining it yourself can be an expensive exercise as you have discovered.

............. you say you spent the $7 large on this bike already?? you must really love this bike!!

The nature of the issue is an intermittent one . Could be anything from a faulty ignition barrel or 'greened out' kill switch ,faulty ignitor to damaged wiring harness which mind you could be any where from the bars to the ignitor (entire bike wiring could be sus??) These issues need to be sorted systematically and then parts sources as required. If you are willing to pay for ALL of the time spent achieving this repair it WILL cost you dearly. If you would prefer a guru spend time on it here and there as he/she can over the course of the week and you charged a reasonable hourly rate for the privelige then continue as you were.

Good luck - hopefully it is an easy fix.

i totally understand and agree with what your saying, about "can o worms" as i found out after my first problem with the fork seals needed replacing then found out they needed re-chroming, then the brakes, then the fuel pump, then the carbies, and the list goes on. hence the $7 large! $3 large on labour alone! so having spent this already i dont mind seeing it through to the end! and yes i do really love this bike. check out photo's in the my pics section under 96 zx7r still going strong and you'll see why

They work on my ZZR600 tracky and they don't get much worse than that :lol: they also work on my KTM640Adv, my DRZ400sm and worked on my Ducati 749 when I had it.
Also I think they are all ex-racers themselves so they know there way around the bikes and I wouldn't be surprised if they'd even raced your model before.

Not really the machine to commute on I reckon.
Few questions here.When exactly does this occur,commuting,general riding while at stop/give way signs/traffic lights,unexpected length of time off the bike while it's running.So many variables that only you can convey to a mechanic,and that you need to take time to work out b4 you go to one again.
IMHO,sounds like fuel vapourisation due to overheating.Does it run rough before it cuts out ,or snap of the fingers type cutout.
So,so many variables.Really hope you get this sorted man,it must be driving you nuts....and broke!! :cry:

My ZX7 used to do a similar thing when it got hot, when I would stop at the lights it would cut out when I went to take off again. Turned out to be a combo of fuel vaporisation and an electrical gremlin. But it took a while to sort it out. Lucky I know a good mechanic!

Honestly mate noone is going to be able to help you other then giving you blind stabs in the dark. A good mechanic eg Glenn at Allfixed will ask you to bring it in so he can take a look at it, take it for a ride and see if he can work it out. Unfortunately with these sort of things unless you can replicate the problem on command it can cost you a bucket while you're chasing shadows.

A mechanic who wants to help you out of it for minimal cost will face the same problem. Good luck with it.
