Almost time to upgrade - ZX6R questions

Post by Beza »

I've got just under 3 months to go and I can get a real bike *woot!* after a lot of thought I've decided I on a ZX6 (as opposed to a ZX10). My question is though what's the main difference between the 05/06 636's and a 09/10 ZX6.

I commute everyday and it ranges from a 20km to 150kms round trip depending where I'm staying and I generally go for a spin on the weekends to some twisties.

Until I can take them for a test ride myself, I was wondering what other peoples opinions are between the two models and is the price difference worth it (looking at second hand).

cheers.

Both good bikes so it'll depend on preference.

As always newer model come with more funky gear and progression in tech.

The 09 has the following over the 636
- THE awesome Nissin calipers
- Steering dampner standard
- Big piston front forks.
- generally more power.

Others can update more if I have missed something

im pretty sure the 636 still has 2 or 3 hp more than the 2010 zx6r due to the extra 36ccs.

handling is pretty good with the 6, but make sure you ride both of them on the same brand/type of tire. i rode a gsxr600 on a shagged set of supercorsa's and didnt wanna turn in, just felt real heavy and weird in the handling.. didnt buy it mainly because of the bad impression i got, they are both good bikes, but is the new one 6 grand better than the 05 636.. id say no.

Having ridden the 05/06 07/08 and 09/10 on both road and track I can assure you the 09 onwards is the pick of the bunch. More topend but the same lowdown torque enjoyed by the 636. Handles better too. In saying that I liked riding the 636, for about 7 grand is a great buy and would be a perfect upgrade. When you get your full licence try them both and see which one suits you more for comfort and budget. You couldnt go wrong with either

Despite what some may think, the 636 has as much (maybe 2hp down on 09) topend, but, the 636 shits on even the newest 600's for bottom and midrange. If it were my money, i would save the moola and opt for the 636. Unless needing to be on the latest aNd greatest to bulster your ego is a purchase requirement.

On specs I think the 05/06 636 actually has about 4-5hp over the current 599 but would be interesting to see what difference a slipon makes. By seat of your pants on the road there is bugger all difference in performance. Have fun testing Beza :kuda:

Edit - Wikipedia (not sure how accurate it is) shows the hp difference in advantage of the 636. Still Beza you'd be happy with either :kuda:

The 05 06 636 is perfect for the road & there are plenty available + with the age the price range is great you get a fantastic bike for heaps less than the new ones.... I would prefer the 09 for the track based off the last test session ;)
As for comfort the 636 is good for an all day stint without sore wrists & numb bum so commuting will be no worries, have fun testing 8)

If it comes down to looks I think the 09 looks a little meaner but I like the idea of the pipes under the seat of the 636 and value for money it's definitely the 636.

Mate 636 = Incredible value for money + the look is still modern.... sorta like a 916... it will never look dated.........as its one of the best designs ever!
Its great to see the two side by side...but I am still in love with the 636

As for pipes .... http://www.ksrc-au.com/phpBB3/viewtopic ... t=two+bros

After riding all 3 around the track I found the 09 on stock suspension still about 1 sec quick around the creek.

If it does have more midrange I def couldn't tell. Low end though I wouldn't know.
