Yeah Rob I do a WOVR when I total loss a vehicle down here in VIC.

The letter of authorisation will cost from what they are telling us & only limited people will be able to do them.

I did 7 stolen & recovered cars today found in VIC but stolen from NSW & I was told to STAT them.
Nothing wrong with them other than having the VIN numbers removed.
We used to be able to get new VIN numbers & put them back on the road or sell them through auction as repairable.
Not any more.

No problem.
Its probably worth noteing most of the big insurance boys are submitting problems to RTA as they come up.
So I reckon this will be constanlty changing & hard to get reliable info on for a while, even the RTA are changing things every day.
I finnish this biz on friday but if I get any inside info I will let you guys know as it seems to affect a few people in here.

As some may know, my Z750 was "written off" recently. I received a letter from NSW RTA a few days after it was assessed by the insurer's repairer.
The RTA suspended the registration, stating the bike had been assessed as " either a statutory or repairable write-off ". The letter went on to say that I could have the bike assessed as " either a statutory or repairable write-off " by taking it to an AUVIS ( Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station )( aka - NSW Blue Slip inspector), where a determination would be made as to whether the bike was a SW-O or RW-O. If assessed as a "repairable write-off", I could apply for the registration to be re-instated, after repairs were made ( and I presume a subsequent inspection of those repairs ).
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

Me too Rob, my learners bike and now sportsbike and would really love to do a modern naked sometime in the future.

I can't help but think it'll push insurance premiums up too, but we'll have to wait and see.

be nice if they at least gave some guidelines (or treated bikes as bikes).. I understand they want to stop chop n weld cars n stuff like that but with bikes its mostly fairly simple stuff.. just another case of gubberment stomping on the little guys :/

But are you allowed to use any of said un-repairable write off bikes parts again?

The sum of all parts, all parts for a sum....Think about it....

yeh good point.. I'd assume a frame couldn't be used for a regoed bike (even if it was written off for busted fairings), but what about a donk since that has an id # too?

Yes, they will ONLY be good for parts ... but what is the use of truckloads of parts if you aren't allowed to fix anything?
On the other hand, it might make parts cheaper for those minor breakages that don't need insurance claims. dontknow.gif

But they could become harder to get as the salvage values will now probably be lower hence more damage required for an uneconomical to repair write off.

Yep my R1 Trackie is on the repairable write off register, still has all its tags, I have all the road gear parts required, in red white livery too. Not that I would, but It would just have to be put through a full inspection to be put on the road..
I used to be indecisive...now I am not so sure...

All this will do is cause people to take out 3rd party insurance only.

This way if they have an accident, they can have their insurance take care of the damaged they caused, the bike goes in the shed and is not assessed by an insurance company thus being able to be repaired.

Unfortunately, this only means that potential buyers do not have good visibility of something that was involved in an accident. Will probably cause more problems than benefits.
