Re: Repairable Write-offs
"Will any written-off vehicles be able to be registered?
Most written-off vehicles will not be able to be re-registered after the start of the new laws. However if certain requirements are met, the RTA will consider applications to repair and register vehicles on a case-by-case basis."

Re: Repairable Write-offs
Wonder what they will classify as non-structural. Would a scratch on the frame/swing arm be structural??What if my motor bike has cosmetic but no structural damage?
If you have a motor bike that was written-off on or after 31 January 2011 with non-structural damage, you can apply to the RTA for Authorisation to Repair.

Re: Repairable Write-offs
Bikes with cosmetic damage will be able to be done.
But thet are going to make it so much rooting around the average Joe will not be bothered with it.
They are also hinting it will go Aus wide at some point as I assess in VIC & have just been trained in it.
Except I will not be doing it next week, thank fuck.

Re: Repairable Write-offs
good and bad i suppose , might reduce re births and poorly repaired vehicles entering the used car market ect but used the parts industry will suffer big time i.e wreckers. Years ago good money was to be made in buying repairable write off's before they the RTA changed the rules and made it compulsory to declare the vehicle a write off on the rego papers. I remember buying this hz one tonner from airport auctions , it looked alright so i thought, cheap as to $1000 , anyway all it needed was a good detail ,seat belts, and windscreen , at the time it was worth $6000 grand all day on the road ..i cleaned it up and i also sanded back the chassis rails prior to painting to make it look nice and pretty ,anyway as i was sanding the chassis it started to disappear into powder , it turns out it had been crunched previously and the chassis was full of fuking bog , lol .

If you can find them.... I heard the insurance companies might repair up to 90% damage because disposal becomes harder with only 2 markets.... Wrecking & Track bikes

Re: Repairable Write-offs
It will be inerseting to see what it does to salvage prices.
Might be able to pick up cheap trackies?
Also it will eventually affect spare parts as there will be a lot more 2nd hand stuff around.
As Rob said they might start to repair more cars but they (RTA) are going to change what they call a Statutory Total Loss also.
So it will come back to what the damage is not the cost of repairs.

"NSW vehicles written-off from 31 January 2011 will be classified as statutory write-offs on the written-off vehicle register. This means that it: can not be registered
can only be used for parts or scrap metal."
Anything RRO prior to that date is OK to register.

Re: Repairable Write-offs
Dont know about other states but for NSW:
"the registered operator must obtain an 'Authorisation to Repair a written-off vehicle', if the vehicle was listed on the Written-Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) on or after 31 January 2011"
Is the WOVR National?
