ZX6R Mutation

Post by Six Addict »

Yes, ive finally pulled my finger out and got started on nakederising my much beloved, often dropped, ZX6R

when i first bought it, it looked like this...
Image

then i added a pipe and a db windscreen...

Image

and raced it round a track a few times.

after this came the MX bar conversion...

then i dropped it a few times, and bits were broken, it got reversed over twice, and i was bored and wanted a change

so today when i got a package in the mail, i set out to the carport and got started.

then i test fitted the new headlight (yes i know its off a dirt bike)
Image

ive mounted it as low as possible and i think it looks good in proportion. i could try and mount it higher to give more wind protection (still bugger all) but i will start fouling brake lines and throttle cables. I have to re-route the clutch cable as it is.

the unit is very snug in to the triple clamps so i might buy extenders to mount it further away from the forks. this may allow me to sneak the guages behind the headlight and out of sight. alternatively i will look to sling someone a case of beer in exchange for fabircation of a bracket to mount the gauges off the handlebar above the bar clamps...

photo showing current location in relation to the ignition... pretty nice fit...
Image

after i resolve the bracket/location of the guages, then i have to wire up the headlights, mount some blinkers, cover the air intakes with some mesh (wastelands :kuda: ), make a rad-guard... then start riding the baby again!

in the longer term i will look to get the tank and remaining plastics re-sprayed (probably just green again but maybe with some graphics courtesy of robracer, thinking ELR scheme  ), shorten the muffler and paint it and the headers in flat black. this will all have to happen when i have a job again, but that is looking likely which is :kuda:

anyway feel free to sling shit my way or maybe some constructive ideas if you're feeling that way inclined

ill keep you all updated with how i go. :D

I'll have to see it in the flesh but it looks good.

Tidy up the front a bit now. Move your horm somewhere else, remove the fork guards and get dome better looking ones and then tidy up the brake lines. Also get some better looking levers as they now stand out like dogs balls. ;)

Yeah the horn does stand out hey, will have to figure that out. The coolant overflow also needs to be tidied up with a neater bottle. Kaneg might get a workout with some new levers and rearsets when some money gets into my bank account.

The fork guards and mud guard might get some bunnings black treatment. I can do that myself

can you just pull the rubber air intake thingies out?? they looks a little funny like that. Jos made wasteland mesh covers for the holes on his frame.

other than that i think it looks ok 8)

Maybe a simple digital tacho/speedo/temp guage might be a good idea rather than stuffing with the stock guages?

you could get away with a pushie speedo if you dont want the tacho. just change gears when it hits the limiter :kuda:

Yeah they do look a bit ghey, but will be more functional this way at least catchin some more air. I will decide tho and it's not hard to fix. Yeah I can just get a single speedo with idiot lights, so there is some stuff I haven't decided on yet.

if you look at the pic from front on, even if you remove the rubber snorkels, you will still be getting a fresh air feed.

Also how will I change the wiring from my original double low/hi to the new single bulb low and single bulb high?
