Do you squid on hot days

Yes, gear weighs me down; sunglasses & shorts are best when riding fast.

Yes, I'm already a fat bastard any additional weight in the form of gear will reduce my kwaka's power/weight ratio.

Yes, real riders don't need gear, we anticipate and counter any situation.

No, I scull a can of "harden the f*ck up" and enjoy the sauna.

No, the sight of lines, tubes coming out of every orifice whilst in ICU and having "man nurse" sponge bath me is enough to turn me off.

Squiding on hot days

Post by Kermit »

With the temperatures starting to swelt of late, I notice more and more squids out. Despite wearing summer protective gear, start/stop traffic and being stuck in tunnels is somewhat grueling in terms of heat.

So I am wondering who has given into the heat and squids.

I didn't generate the poll/thread to ascertain whether squiding is right or wrong, the choice is yours whether you do it or not.

The new Vented gear is great these days, but the best bet is staying hydrated ;)

on that subject, would soaking a t shirt in cold water to wear under leather jacket cause any probs to the jacket?

Since moving to Sydney, I've noticed lots of riders in jacket but no gloves. Never saw that in Melbourne.
I find it really odd. I'd be more likely to wear gloves than anything else!

Yep. its your hands feet and hips that eat it. Not including helmet of course. I'm guilty of wearing leather jacket leather gloves, jeans(cotton) and laced up leather shoes on many occasions. I do have hornee jeans, a set of a* pants that zip to my jacket but...

yeh the hard bits with out the fleshy bits covering them.

Rob's right, 2 piece for the road (with armour inserts) with gloves with gauntlet and shin high boots. Or do what I did all last week, cage it with A/C, like a poof :)

I found myself guilty of squiding quite often, short rides to work or the shops, but with the responibilites of marriage and fatherhood, you soon wake up to yourself a bit.

Plus she won't let me go out if i'm not suited up. 8)

The thought has crossed my mind a few times. But being the unlucky S.O.B that I am, I know the one time I decide to ditch the gear something will happen and I'll regret it. :P

I just put up with the heat. At a minimum: Leather jacket (Seems to breathe better than my textile one :S), 3/4 Gloves, Kevlar jeans, shin high motorcycle boots.

Never understood wearing a jacket but no gloves. I did it once when I first started riding (Seemed like a good idea at the time) and the tops of my hands got burnt quite badly. The pain was enough to teach me a lesson; Didn't need to experience road rash. :P

I had an off about three months ago wearing all the right gear and still said hello to Mr Wire Brush and had a crater in my arm where the friction actually tore the sleeve away and pushed the protection out of the way. It's only just healed no but still not right so its definitely all the gear for me F**K discomfort.
