Info needed
Forum members I need info to help a mate. He has received a letter from the police advising they witnessed him riding in Flinders St Melbourne and deemed his exhaust to be overly loud. The letter is not a fine however they have requested he needs to take his bike in to have the DB's tested. He has a Scorpion exhaust without the baffle fitted on a Yamaha 125. I have ridden with him, his exhaust noise is reasonably loud but nowhere near the sound I have heard coming from some Harley’s.
What is the legal DB level and how is it tested...? He has his baffle that can be fitted along with the original pipe. He would like to avoid taking his bike in to be tested as he also has a fender eliminator that could also be classed as not being roadworthy.
As he hasn’t been fined and the DB’s haven’t been tested, what if he ignores the letter..? What are the chances he’ll be followed up...?
I’m interested to know if anyone on the forum has received such a letter and how they went about responding.
Thanks
Fossi

Re: Info needed
Its a spotters report thats been put in by the police. They've seen/heard the bike and sent the report on. Thats where the police involvment starts and finishes. Don't know what the proccess is after that. Thats right, this post offers no assistance/value what so ever. Sorry to have wasted your time by letting you read it.

Re: Info needed
I don't think he needs to be worried about the eliminator, he only needs to get the sound checked.
Ignore the letter and that might be a different story. perhaps a complete road worthy.

I don't know how it works in vic but in NSW you have to pay for the inspection. So your friend will need to take time off work and fork out some cash
