We went up to see the puppies today and make sure of which one would be Oskar. There was a choice of three boys. In the end, this little fella was chosen as the best match. He's probably going to be bigger than we really wanted as he is the biggest dog in the litter, but, he has his father's facial features more so than the others and that was part of the reason we wanted a puppy from this litter.

so without further delay, here is the real Oskar! :D

Nice dog but you cannot go past a good old Aussie Red Cattle dog, I know they are not everones cup of tea but loyal, very protective of the family and eats strangers who come over the fence at night. I had mine for 15 years until we had to put him to sleep. Enjoy your pooch he will very quickly become one of the family and provide years of company and enjoyment.

Cheers and Beers.

Bob, I know more than well what a red or blue heeler is like. I grew up on a farm mate! As far as heelers go, they are too bitey for my liking! I still have a scar on my upper lip from when our heeler took a chunk out of me when I was two. Great working dog and a hell of a gaurd dog, but not for a city animal in my opinion.

Speaking of heelers, the one who took a chunk out of my lip also bailed up the meter reader in the back yard when we lived in Yetholme near Bathurst. Problem was, it was snowing and we had gone away for the week. Ended up, the guy was bailed up on our back doorstep till 9pm at night. His wife ringing the police and the electricity company just following his route till they found him! The dog had let him come all the way in and to the back door, but wouldn't let him back out!

Here he is at 8 weeks of age with all his brothers and sisters. He is the one in the front right of shot. Apparently, he has turned out to be the largest pup in the litter. Exceeding the weight of all his brothers and sisters by 40grams. Looks like we have ourselves a food pig!! We pick him up on Sunday.

Oskar arrived home tonight. He is already making himself at home. :D He has however had a few little cries. He is missing his mum. It's gunna be a long night. I hate this part, it cuts me up to hear how distressed they get on the first night away from mum and the brothers and sisters.

He's pretty chilled for a pup though. I hope it continues, but won't hold my breath!

Night one came and went. We naturally expected to have a realtively sleepless night. With two or three hour wakeups to take Oskar out for a pee. The way in unfolded was quite unexpected.

Now, even though I actually don't care if a dog sleeps by the bed, I am not a fan of them being in or on the bed. As is Tatyana, or so I thought. Little Oskar has her wrapped around his little paw already and Oskar was never going to be sleeping anywhere but the bed!! :x So last night, when we had tired him out with plaing with his rubber duck (His favourite new toy so far) we showed him HIS bed, but he just wasn't interested, especially when we were in one that was bigger, softer and had us in it!! So against my better judgement, Oskar slept on top of the bed last night. Well....at least that's where he started. WHen I woke up this morning, there he was, with his little head resting across Tatyana's neck, snoring his little head off! Very cute!!

The other impressive thing, was that we went to bed at 11pm and Oskar did not wake us up for a pee untill almost 5.30 this morning! 8) We opened the door to the back yard, he ran outside, did a huge widdle for a little puppy and came back inside very pleased with himself!!

I gotta say, he is a really chilled little fella so far. He's just really cruisy and happy to go along with whatever. I think we may have picked a good one!! 8)

Awesome mate, sounds like you picked a goodun' and temperament is so important to how they end up. You want to put your foot down about the sleeping arrangements though mate or you'll end up being the one sleeping on the couch ;)

Yeah, Viszla's are well known to be bed hogs at the best of times. So yes, we will need to nip it in the bud. I took evasive action this morning. Grabbed an old doonah put a cover on it and shoved it into our bed to get our smell all over it and we are going to try and get him to sleep in that tonight. The issue is that Viszlas are what the ycall the "VELCRO DOG", as they are really cingy. They just like to be with you and peferably, touching you whenever they are relaxing. As it was his first night away from his known surroundings and I needed some sleep, we allowed him on the bed. I knew then and there that I was creating a problem, but my short term need for sleep, overran the training regime!

So, naturally this morning, as soon as he had done his business and finished playing, he wanted to go straight back to the bed!! We didn't allow him and he ended up finding a spot in the backyard on an old towell, catching the little amount of sun that was out. So we will see how we go tonight.

Reports back from home today say that he has not soiled in the house at all. IF the doors are closed to the backyard, he sits at the door crying to let you know he needs to go.

He also is already quite vocal. Not in a barky way, as Viszlas are not barky dogs. But they talk! He has been talking to us most of the time. When he gets his rubber duck in his mouth, he wont shut up. But it's not loud and is pretty cute actually. 8)

He also has now learned to come when called, to sit when we feed him and that he is not allowed on the leather loungs or to jump up on people. Apart from the odd slip when he forgets, he has not put a foot wrong.

Love yr avatar Greg. he always looked like the cute little boy from next door. But fuck could he steer. so sad the way died.

I am just sitting out the back watching Oskar. He has settled a little more today. The first night allowing him to sleep on our bed was actually a benefit to helping him settle. He is looking very secure in his new surroundings, knows his name, comes when called, let's you know when he needs to go outside, sit's before taking food, understands no and sleeps well at night for a puppy.

Being the best puppy i have ever had i hope he doesn't turn out to be the worst dog i've ever had!!

I had to have him at work for a couple of hours this afternoon and even there in an unusual environment he behaved perfectly. He let me know when he needed to go outside, did his thing and then followed me straight back to my office. He is one smart little cookie.

I had to laugh, he was playing with a full size footy and picking it up in his mouth by a lace he managed to chew loose. Every time he tried to walk with it, the weight of the footy would make him stagger left and right as he walked. Cute.

He is asleep on my lap as i type and must be having a dream about drinking mums milk as he was suckling on thin air. God a puppy eats time. :D
