Scrapheap Challenge.

Post by MadKaw »

Hi from the team behind the Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2011!

The Scrapheap Adventure Ride is the brainchild of Perry Gilsenan.

Perry lost both his legs in a train accident as a teen, but decided early on that he'd continue to live life to the fullest. And that he has. For Perry this has included covering over half a million kms of great Aussie turf on his treasured motor bikes, and also caring for his two young daughters; Grace, his eldest, born with Down Syndrome (who he describes as the 'great light of his life') and Molly (5).

In 2010 Perry drew on his two passions to put in motion an Adventure Ride that would whet the motor-building appetites of all those that love a challenge, that love the great outdoors and that love a great cause. The Scrapheap Adventure Ride was born and went on to raise well over $20k for the Down Syndrome Association NSW, in it's first year alone!

Cameron Corner is the destination point for the Scrapheap Adventure Ride in 2011. With only 13 weeks before the big event, we're hoping you'll help us get the word out to all your members, as early as possible.

Registration? Simple.

- Buy a bike for under $1000 (up to the individual rider)
- Spend what you need to build it up and get it registered
- Tell (brag) to your mates
- Register for the ride (with a suggested $100 donation)
- Alone, with your mates or with your family, set off on your adventure ride
- Reach Cameron Corner, enjoy the entertainment, share your stories, and try to get your hands on a trophy or two

And of course, all riders that register are welcome - not just the scrap heapers. No reason to miss it at all!

We've enclosed a Media Release, flyer and editorial on last years rally from TBAM magazine (who will continue to support this great ride in 2011).

We also have a dedicated website at http://scrapheapadventureride.com.au/

Thank you again for your support with this once-a-year event. In Grace's words "it's awesome!"

Regards,

From wikipedia;

'Cameron Corner is the point in the outback of eastern Australia where the boundary lines of the states of Queensland, South Australia, and New South Wales meet'

My only issue is after the $1000 purchase price, it does not give a limit of what you spend to get it roadworthy. You could buy a witten off bike and spend 20K getting it going - defeats the object.

I bet you could pick up a half decent 600 that would easilly do the job.

I think the idea is that you're savng it from the scrapheap, so it doesn't matter how much you spend. :)
