There goes my New Year resolution

Post by DaveGPz »

After 3 days in the High Country we were coming down from Mt Hotham to Harrietville. Coming into the Meg (sharp right downhill hairpin, 25k), just starting to turn into the corner when a 4WD coming up the hill decided to overtake a pushbike over double lines. Straightened up to dodge, then dropped but still ran out of road 2/3 through the corner and hit the safety barrier. Busted fairing, broken footpeg and bruised leg (leathers +1). 4WD didn't stop (probably didn't even notice). Came to a stop against the barrier looking down at a 50ft drop. What really shits me is that if I'd gone over, the coroner would have put it down as another "single vehicle motorcycle accident, police suspect speed was a factor".

Beats last month, when we came around a corner at Marysville to meet a semi-trailer overtaking a cement mixer over double whites around a blind corner, followed by a 4WD. All three of us dodged that one.

And still the TAC wants me to believe that my greatest danger as a rider comes from me spontaneously hurling myself off my bike into oncoming vehicles whilst overtaking. I don't think so.

The good news is that I was in the shed looking at the damage when I noticed that the pegs on my youngest son's FZR250 are identical; rather than take his  I went to the wreckers, and Jap wreckers are much cheaper than Triumph wreckers. Unfortunately his fairings don't fit...

Sorry to hear, I know that corner well and there is not alot of room, sounds like you were pretty lucky.

I'm hearing you about the TAC, my last crash, which I have been dealing with them about was casued by a shit piece of road surface, even the HWP that attended said the same thing - no charges were laid by the coppers who said "mate, your were just really unlucky".

Still the same from the TAC, single vehicle road accident, speed was a factor as I wasnt standing still - but I was 30 kph below the posted limit ;)

Thanks guys. Levered the radiator back into place today, so I'm all set to go with my son on Monday. See you on the road, or at my place tomorrow Pos.

Glad you managed to make it through that close call, my other thought was if you went down that 50ft drop and were seriously injured or worse who would find you.

My partner, who was following on her Suzuki. She would have been pissed off! BTW, well done Poss. I've never seen someone carry a lemon tree on a Z1000 before :kuda:
