Anyone give zx14 flies out long term review?
Anyone give zx14 flies out long term review?
I've been considering the flies out PCIII mod for my '07 14 and googling find plenty of people saying it is worth it. I haven;t been able to find any long term comments from people that have had the mods in from the '06-07 models and done any substantial time and distance on the bike to determine if any long term damage is caused to the engine. Anyone here had the mods in on their street 14 for some time that can give me a review please?

I took the secondary 'flies out of my 12 back in 2006.........best 'value for money' mod ever !!
this bike has done over 50,000km, heaps of track days - no ill side-effects or damage. You aren't going to damage a motor by taking out the ECU-controlled secondary flies, they are just fitted to smooth out the power delivery.
Sure, its a 12 not a 14, but the differences are really only academic where this stuff is concerned - I highly recommend this mod.

I have done about 30,000km since doing it on my 06, go for it. Different bike completely.

Thanks, I have the PCIII sitting here now and I'm just waiting on my new pipes to arrive then out with the flies and off for a custom map. Should only be another week or twobluezx14 wrote:I have done about 30,000km since doing it on my 06, go for it. Different bike completely.

It will feel like a different bike mate - the 'flies out' mod gives you much better control over the power delivery - not so much that you will be popping fully-sick wheelies everywhere, its more about how 'snappy' the response is out on the road - say when you want to rip past a couple of semi's and the grey nomads with a couple of caravans in tow............its way better.

Yep gotta agree, took the flies out of my 14 after 1000km. fitted full yoshi 4 into 1 system and pc111. Done 26000 km no prob, just a great all round bike. Pulling the flies gives you a little more response under around 5000 rpm and is the simplest mod you could do. oh yeah and its free

Just don't drop the little screws when you're pulling them out!

+10000000000 - use a magnetic-tip screwdriver, they all have a bit of thread-lock on them.MickLC wrote:......Just don't drop the little screws when you're pulling them out!.....

heat the tip of the screwdriver with a blow torch till its roaring hot and hold it on the screw for at least 30 seconds to help break the lock tight! many a story of guys attempting this and rounding the screws head, it wouldn't be fun trying to drill your f*#@ed screws out....

Re: Anyone give zx14 flies out long term review?
Just an update, finished this back in early Feb. Made a great difference to the torque curve through acceleration, thanks for all the advice. Bike feels like it should now and I have put probably 5000km on the clock since the mod.
