I know it's already out there but........HTFU.

A guy I work with reckons motorcyclists are crazy nutbags (his wife apparently agrees) and when his daughter announced she was buying a motorbike they threatened her with all sorts of horrendous actions. Mind you this is from a bloke who for hobbies parachutes and flies light aircraft bduh.gif

When I asked him how he convinced his wife that either of these two pastimes were any less crazy than motorcycling he laughed and said "She wasn't always supportive. Then I showed her the value of my life insurance policy and she paid for my first lessons!"

he would prob loose his missus because he bought a new bike to go racing on

i said

"well she aint worth it" before i thought.

but

yeh i would still say the same

someone who cant accept you for who you are and thge hobby you choose obviously doesnt understand you as a person.
Kellz, you failed to mention he had already bought a new fireblade, and bought your gixxer trakky, that would send any woman with self respect packing. (this is the first reference I have heard of said individual having a partner, not that i'm saying he's gay but.....)

Personally, my answer is "sucks to be you." I'm pretty lucky, I sold my bike just before I got married, by choice, as It was now a "known" vehicle to the local enforcement. When we got back from our honeymoon I was instructed to find a new bike and do some track days. She has never stopped me going for a ride, and still tries to convince me that just because my leathers are too tight and make me want to vomit that is no reason not to do a track day.

It depends what's more important. Living your dreams, or someone else's. If she really cares she will understand the need for you to do the things you love. My wife doesn't like the bike, my 4wd or snowboarding, but it hasn't stopped me from doing any of them. I'm not a selfish prick and (as with all relationships) I have had to make plenty of sacrifices and compromises (like with tattoos as she detests them, so I made a decision not to get any out of respect for her) but if something is really important to you for fucks sake do it. If they put restrictions on you you've got to decide what is more important, pleasing them or satisfying your own needs. I personally wouldn't want to be with someone who didn't want me to be happy. I always put things in perspective by thinking: "when I'm on my death bed and look back at my life, will I wish I had spent more time at work and making sacrifices or will I wish I had taken every opportunity to enjoy it?"

I stopped riding for about 4 years cos I'd changed countries and thought it would be prudent not to risk it in a strange land with no family support etc while i was setting myself up here in QLD, and i was okay with that. Then my woman declared that she was getting her bike licence and then days later a bike, I rode it and that was it I was back in the fold!!

While she treated the riding with moderation, i went bananas, many trackdays, many crashes, racing, bigger more insane toys and Lisa is still cool with it, in fact she encouraged me to give racing a go....bless her cotton socks... :D

She has told me that she still worries and fretts if I'm late home from work.

Cath wrote:Anyway, I'd just heard the phrase *again* from my new neighbour and thought I'd bring it up here. I'm going with "feels inadequate so slags out his missus to make himself feel less ball-less" as the reason for the comment. Which is funny, because it actually makes the bloke appear even lamer! I think I might just go with a raised eyebrow and a slightly disdainful look of superiority as a response ;) But I'll still be thinking "Sucks to be ball-less you!"
That's the way to do it ... ;)

Hahahaha, what a GRAVE DIG! How things can change!

Tell them to piss that partner off and get one that rides (even one that is quicker than them) :P and does everything else you like as well. It worked for me. :kuda: 8)

And now that I know you better Cath, I know your answer would be far less diplomatic than back then.

I've had this answer from a few people when we're talking motorbikes.

And I've said they should do it anyways, which of course they haven't.

Pity.
