An Expensive week (Gear, Maintenance)

Post by Strika »

Well it's bee one hell of an expensive week!!! Enjoyably expensive, but all in all expensive!! It started with me doing some much needed and constantly delayed, maintenance on the Rex. At 72,000klms it had not had clearances done since 27K and I figured, that even though I never flog it, with those Klms it might be wise. In addition, there were some other things which I figured would need attention. Here is what has been done.

Oil Change, Filter change, Valve clearances adjusted, Carburettors Synchronised, New Steering head bearings and seals, New front wheel bearings and seals, new rear wheel bearings and seals, New Sprocket carrier bearing, New Chain, New front and Rear Sprockets and a brake fluid flush and change

Next on the agenda is some new front brake rotors. Mine have been off there head since about 30,000klms!! So it's about time I shouted it some new ones.

In addition to all that, it's been over 5 years since I bought a new Road helmet, new gloves, new leathers etc., So I lashed out this week and went and bought a new Arai Vector Web. (Had looked at these a few years ago, but couldn't justify the $$$$ at the time.)

I also bought a new road suit. An Alpine star Indy jacket and a pair of Alpine Star Apex pants!! Plus some nice new short cuffed summer Alpine star gloves!! So I am all set for summer riding now! Fresh bike, new gear all I need now is some decent weather!!!

So all those nagging repairs finally got to you. ;)

After some new touring gear myself. The stimulus paid for RJ pants and Jacket are starting to come apart after nearly 2 years of daily abuse.

This time it will be quality, just not sure what to get.

Shipping was $US57.60

Cheapest price I could find on the net.
It's an older model but the newer ones are around $800.

Daz, what liner does it have, drytec or Goretex?

Hey Jonno, are you looking at textile or leather?

If you are looking at textile, go something with Goretex. The other liners are like wearing a garbage bag in comparison to Goretex. Especially now yr back as a nana bender.

expensive though, but I was riding in the rain with people in normal gear last week. I was dry warm and happy. they were not unlike drowned rats.

Jacket has a goretex membrane so they breathe really well.
This is the second to top jacket they make. Top one is the Nector which has built in Back and neck protection.
I've got a set of Dainese goretex pants that I wear every day over my work pants and they are great. Keep me dry and breathe at the same time.

Check the link it's got all the info.
