Victorian record no one wants.
Taken from daily Telegraph today.
VICTORIA has just recorded its highest number of monthly motorcycle deaths in 20 years, with 11 riders killed in October.
This brings Victoria's 2010 road toll to 258 compared to 238 for the same period last year.
Ten of the riders killed in October were male, with six riders and one pillion passenger aged over 40. Six motorcyclists were killed in metropolitan Melbourne, and four were killed in 50km/h or 60 km/h speed zones.
According to Transport Accident Commission (TAC) statistics rider error may have caused six of the 11 fatalities.
The TAC's road safety and marketing senior manager John Thompson said the statistics prove some motorcyclists continue to put themselves and other road users at risk.
"There are some motorcyclists who fail to understand how vulnerable they are and, when travelling at speed in a collision, they will always come off second best, regardless of who is at fault," Mr Thompson said.

"Similarly, car drivers need to be aware that motorcyclists are legitimate road users and they need to keep an eye out for them."
Road trauma costs Victorians more than $3.5 billion each year, and motorcyclists represent one-quarter of all TAC claims involving an overnight hospital stay.
Despite representing just three per cent of all registered road users, motorcyclists account for 20 per cent of all TAC medical costs.
Wearing your protective clothing and riding within your capabilities are the key things riders should remember," Mr Thompson said.

Unfortunately spring brings out the fair weather riders who have parked the bike for the winter and then proceed to "blow out the cobwebs". Rusty skills combined with unrubbered roads combine to cause mayham

Re: Victorian record no one wants.
It sure makes it hard for them to claim the zero tolerance on speeding and record number of cameras are working. FFS when are these tards going to just admit they were bullshitting all along about speed being the killer and admit they need the revenue?hoffy V2.0 wrote:But they have the most speed cameras?? Re: Victorian record no one wants.
Maybe the Victorians ride around complacent, without any safety concerns
after all the gumbyment has been ramming it down their necks for so long that the cameras are there to keep them safe.
Might have created a "i'm safe, the gumbyment is looking after me" attitude.................

so true - the greed cameras are supposed to make sure nobody dies....right ?hoffy V2.0 wrote:But they have the most speed cameras?? It doesnt make sense
It's a pretty bad statistic though, and you can guarantee that this is going to result in even tougher law enforcement in The Fine State - more cameras, higher fines, less tolerance for speeds slightly over the limit.........and all the time, they never address the real problems - the shitty state of the roads, the lack of driver training, the umpteen billion fucking signs everywhere for everything you could possibly think of, the 20 changes of speed limits inside 1 length of suburban street.....its a joke.

Re: Victorian record no one wants.
So I guess - like we see in Victoria (speed camera capital of Australia) - we will see an increase in the number of fatalities as well, greathoffy V2.0 wrote:NSW Peepes....Just found out we are getting another 40 Mobile speed cameras next Feb !!!!

When are the pollies going to realise that camera's DO NOTHING FOR ROAD SAFETY and we KNOW that.........stop telling us they are doing things they are not

Re: Victorian record no one wants.
I believe if 6 out of 11 were due to rider error than the balance were due to other drivers/ riders. Rare are deaths attributed to road conditions as we are meant to take into consideration the road conditions and drive/ ride appropriately.laidback1952 wrote:Be interesting to know how many were killed as a result of car driver error...
You can't blame speed cameras, as much as they are revenue raisers the idea of unmarked cameras is if you don't know where you won't speed. Unfortunately this idea doesn't take into account that as males and the younger generation generally are more willing to take higher risks (thrill seekers) and the idea of getting caught for speeding is negated or rather balanced up by our willingness to take the risk of being caught.
Reality is the only sure way to reduce traffic trauma is to increase the ability/ standard of those using the road.
No matter which way you look at it, when you make up 1/5 of the overnight stays and yet make up less than 1/20 of the road users (and that isn't worked out by total distance travelled which was less that 1/100) we are being over represented in the figures.

Re: Victorian record no one wants.
Was having a fang down Gippsland on Tuesday with a few mates, fuck me, sign on the road says what speed are you doing now? So of course you look at your speedo, never mind the 30kmh hairpin bend and 400 foot drop off, just make sure you know what speed you are going.. hey cool, took that cliff leap at 70kmh, now i'm fucking dead but the leap was awesome!!!
Every year prior to GP I do a drive by down to the island with a Vic Roads bloke, he's saying their maintenance budget hasn't increased in TEN years, any wonder the roads are fubar!!! Thank fuck for one small mercy though, Victoria doesn't do roadworks like NSW at least, if that was the case we would have pot holed dirt roads as our major highways even.
No idea what it is with NSW but it seems the strategy is, ok here's a piece of road that needs repairing, so we'll take the bitumen top off, grade it, roll it, then fuck off for a week to fix the spot we did the same to last week, let the weather and trucks and cars completely fuck the surface up, then come back in a week to finish it off..

A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"
