I saw this ad the other day and couldn't believe that they would show such a stupid act and then say it's carma.
Are they trying to give people ideas for payback?

Unfortunately this undoes all the good work that they put into their website which promotes awareness and driver training.
There is even a very good section on motorcycles and the visibility problems faced by them.

I hope like hell that no cagers get ideas from this. It has happened to me before by a stupid passenger suddenly deciding that they want to get out a car in the middle lane of traffic at a red light. Didnt break my mirror but the edge of the door caught me right on the knee and I can honestly say that it didn't tickle.
I was limping for a week afterward.

I for one will be making my thoughts known to them.

Darren.

That kind of thing really annoys me.

I rarely split, so I cant say it will happen to me. But I would be very disappointed if it were to happen to any one as a result of this campaign.

An email or two to Supercheap auto and a few other organisations that Russell Ingal and Paul Morris are involved with highlighting the irresponsible promotion of dangerous actions to motorcyclists may just see them take it down. I'm sure V8 supercars will like their drivers promoting dangerous driving.....

Fucking ridiculous.......

I for one will be sending something through.

Here's a copy of the email I sent.
Feel free to copy, edit or send.

To whom it may concern,

I wish to congratulate you on an excellent website promoting driver awareness and training and especially the section on rider visibility.

However as a motorcyclist I abhor the advertisement showing a bike rider getting hit by someone opening a car door in the middle of traffic.

I am not sure what you are trying to say here.

1. That is okay to open a car door in the middle of traffic.
2. That an irresponsible rider deserves this type of retaliation.

I would hate to think that drivers would get the wrong impression from this and think, hey here’s a good idea, let’s see how many bikes we can get on our way to work.

A car door being opened in this way would not just break a mirror, it could break a riders leg, cause them to crash and possibly end up under another car or truck where the consequences could be far more serious.

Please by all means continue to promote awareness and safety, but perhaps you could reassess your advertisements in this regard.

Regards,

I've also sent and email. I figured most people would be quite polite in addressing this, so I took a different approach. However, I ensured I commenced it with the words "WITHOUT PREJUDICE"!!!!

It's had an immediate effect :D

Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with feedback regarding the ‘CARMA’ Television campaign.

Your feedback is important to us.
Supercheap Auto’s CARMA campaign has been developed to alert road users to the many risks on our roads and aims to increase levels of awareness amongst road users.

At no time was the campaign intended to offend or alienate any particular group of road users. The particular campaign referenced was intended to highlight just one of the many dangers encountered on our roads on a daily basis and encourage greater levels of awareness.

After feedback on this particular part of the campaign, we have decided to suspend airplay indefinitely while we review its messaging and intent.

Thank you again for your feedback, Supercheap Auto remains committed to promoting increased awareness of the many risks and hazards on our roads to ensure a safer place for all road users.

Regards
