Is this true graded licence system??

Post by Sulli »

Recieved this email from a reputable source has any one else ??

This isn't spam.

If motorcycle costs don't interest you, DELETE NOW. I don't want to
send info to people who don't want the information.

If you want to be on my email list for more motorcycle & scooter
information in the lead up to the Victorian (Nov 2010) & NSW (March
2011) elections just reply to this email. There is no cost associated
with my emails.

The Victorian Government proposes a graded licence system (GLS), to be
introduced mid 2011 if they are re-elected. The GLS will cost would-be
motorcycle & scooter riders $13,000+!

If it happens in Victoria it can happen where you ride.

A GLS will do serious damage to our industry and our transport. It
will push many riders and potential riders into cheap cars. Over time
it will kill smaller bike businesses by cutting off new licences
leaving motorcycling the privlidge of the well-heeled.

Some will ride with no licence, registration or compulsory third party
insurance (CTP) to reduce impossible costs. Some will take risks
cutting spending on protective gear, servicing and parts like tyres
and brakes.

A GLS will reduce safety and cost jobs.

The Victorian Government says on its' website that it will introduce
the GLS mid 2011 while it invites riders to attend consultation
sessions it calls "information" nights. A scam to rival the Windsor
scandal.

The learner approved motorcycles system (LAMs) is only two years old
in Victoria. It has not been evaluated. If GLS replaces LAMs here,
they'll try it in other states. $13,000 plus per licence!

Don't believe me. Have your say online at www.arrivealive.vic.gov.au .

The cost of getting a bike licence proposed by the Victorian
Government will hurt the people who need low-cost, reliable, safe
transport the most. That cost is on top of the highest taxed road user
group in this country, motorcycle & scooter riders. We pay our way!

If you think the CTP petition (link below) is important, please pass
it on. Feel free to use it in newsletters, magazines and on websites
etc.

A person does not have to be a rider to sign and every signature
brings riders closer to saving money by abolishing an unfair road
taxes. A win in Victoria brings makes riders claims across Australia
more credible and so strengthens calls to reduce costs elsewhere.

What's the old saying? Bad things happen when good people do nothing.

I agree that all governments are stupid, but $13K??? Even I can't believe they'd try and pull that much of a swifty.

There's none can ride like me.

news.com.au published something about this about a month ago. Apparently the Vic gov are wanting to proceed with it and the estimated costing to get a lic will be between $13k-$14k.

My guess would be the best place to look would be the vicroads website? Or contact Damien as above?

* I've just had a read of the proposal - mandatory his-vis, mandatory on-road supervised riding while on L (how on earth do you do that?), mandatory motorcycle gear (how do they legislate what is suitable - apart from helmets I don't think jackets, gloves and pants have an Australian standard to meet). The list goes on and includes mentioning the restriction for L + P1 to be on <260ml bikes.

If this goes through in Victoria then look out the rest of Australia......hope KY is cheap as anyone on a motorbike is going to need it.........
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

yikes!

so LAMs bikes too powerful according to whoever concocted that draconian scheme (obviously not a biker)

Since when does the power output/capacity of a bike magically determine how safe or unsafe it is?? I would feel nuch safer on my bikes than say a 125 that makes 10HP or so..

wanna make roads safer for bikers?? how bout some fuggin cage free zones.. sif that'll ever happen tho

When i think graduated licensing system, i think of the multiple capacity license classes they have in the uk, 50, 150, 250, 400 750, 1000 or whatever it is for their various grades. I immediately thought it was related to that.

I hope it isn't as that'll be a serious nail in the coffin of riding if they get that hum dinger through.

I'll take a guess that the bastards, like in NSW are feeling pretty freaking cocky, i hope it bites them horribly in the arse.

There have been public meetings about it and the MRA has been "representing" us. Eg
http://www.mravic.org.au/forum/modules/ ... oryid=1984
It seems to be a response to the numbers of riders dying down here.

Codognotto seems to be getting into the action fairly late. We even beat him
