Bike is down at Mornington now.
Kawasaki will supply the frame out of goodwill, however it must be fitted by a dealer.
John says about 10 hours to do the changeover, which is probably about a week and half quicker than me.
I asked about the VIN no and was told that the new frame would be restamped with the original no, so no hassle with rego.
I was quoted about $2400 for the frame so I'm glad I'm not paying for that.
The steering head bearings were probably up for replacement so that will get done and save me future cost, plus anything else that can be done at the same time.
Typical this had to happen just when the weather is picking up plus I was going to take my son on the GP ride.
Ah well there's always next year.

firstly holy crap, nice spotting on the crack, even without flogging it's a bit scary that a frame can go like that due to (as others have said) a weld not ending perfectly. As to 10 hours labour, it's unfortunate but your right about it costing a hell of a lot less than it could have.
so 10 hours, about 800 to a grand or so? I can understand the changeover having to be done by the dealer, if for no other reason to make sure it's done (hopefully) correctly.
Well were back on the road again.
Picked up the bike today and brought it home to put the fairings back on.
New frame supplied by Kawasaki and changed over by Mornington Kawasaki.
Got out of it for just over 2k, but this included a new set of Q2's, full service including valves and adjustment of the suspension front and back.
Very happy with the service except the two extra bolts they put in the lower fairing brackets. Had me guessing for a bit.

Now you've experianced a dodgy frame i'd be willing to bet you'll be constantly checking the new one. Paranoia sucks the big one.

Once you get your new frame sorted, cash the old one in at the scap yard..Ya might get enough for a box of beer and be able to sit drink and think how lucky you are that it didn't snap right through and split the bike in half while you were on it....

I forgot to add that I got new headstem bearings as well as all the other work.
3 weeks commuting in the car was enough for me.
but it was the only pic i had that was small enough in size to use.....
