Tyres for '09 Z1000
Re: Tyres for '09 Z1000
Road attacks are a good choice. I have been using them for a few years and usually get most of the summer done before the back tire is bald, (usually about 4k-5k miles). The front usually lasts for about 2 to 3 rears. When using the stock Bridgestones 2,000 miles was the best I could do. Be wary of the break in miles. I sand the tread until it is rough with 200 grit sandpaper and that helps shorten the break-in. It still takes the better part of 200 miles before I feel comfortable in the corners. Let us know how it goes. Jim Beam is clear and light brown like the colour of my true loves teeth.

200 miles to scrub in a tyre? Wallpaper? I think you should be careful with such risky practices oldman!
I must run tyres which scrub in much better, as I have found that once the tyres have touched the road for a few rotations, the slippery surface is gone. I stick new tyres on ride straight to the yarra boulevard, do a lap (4klms) and they are scrubbed?
I use a simple method, tip it in till it slides a bit, let it regain grip, tip it in a little more, let it slide a little, repeat these steps till you get to it's edge.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

I think it's the type of tire, (more road than track), as with my Bridgestones the break in was much as you describe. I just could not get enough mileage out of pure sport tires. I'm thinking of going to a dual compound tire next as the cornering performance of the Conti's is good but scarey some of the time.Strika wrote:200 miles to scrub in a tyre? Wallpaper? I just went out and looked at Michelin power pure dual compound tires and ordered a front and rear set. They will be in Wednesday and i will update this when i go for a ride. I marvel at the amazing power of a brown liquid to transform a typical arsehole into a benevolent arsehole.

I've always just ridden the same. Usually the first 50km is done on the freeway anyway and then after that it's "scrubbed"

turn 8 knee down of left, turn 9 knee down on right. by the time i get there, the tyre is warm and scrubbed in.

i find the most efficient way to scrub in new tyres is to bin in on the 2nd corner you go around

My power pures came in yesterday and they are mounted on the rims. I will get my wheels back on today and go for a ride. I'll post the results when I get back. They are, however very pretty and round and black, Jim time!

Go to general tech and performance to read my comments about my gnu tires as i am a one finger typist and don't wish to retype all that shit.

Re: Tyres for '09 Z1000
Well I ended up getting Conti Road Attacks put on on Thursday. I am certainly not a tyre connessieur, so I am willing to try different brands to see what works for me. The Road Attacks are already much better than the standard Dunlops the Z1000 came with, they tip in much easier! I have only been running aorund town on them, and am yet to get out into the hills on them, so I will reserve judgement until then.
Cheers,
Anne

I used Road Attacks for a couple of years and was very pleased with them. They are good in the wet and warm up fairly fast. I only went to Michelins to try something different and they are definitely nice. I was just bored and needed a change. I might try some good vodka instead of J.B. Keep us posted on your new tires.esie wrote:Well I ended up getting Conti Road Attacks put on on Thursday. Re: Tyres for '09 Z1000
It's interesting that some people are liking the Conti's or "Cunti's" as I like to call them!!!
I have said this previously, they would have to rate right up there with the Bridgestone 002 "Street" tyre as one of the worst tyres I have ever had the displeasure of rolling along on!! They would have to be the stiffest, harshest carcass I have ever sampled and the edge grip could only be described as average IMHO. In addition to having way less grip than a Pilot Road 2 (And I ran the sport attacks, not the Road attacks), they lasted less than half the distance of the PR2's?????
Crap crap fucking crap I reckon!! But...once again, just because someone likes shagging fat ugly people, doesn't make them wrong, it just means they like different things!
