05-06 636 info

Post by cloudnine9 »

gaday just bought a 05-06 636 and the F1 light on the dash is on when the bike is running and flashing when the bike is off.
the light flashing I've been told is the way is supposed to be letting you know the immobleizer is on, but when the bike is running and the light is on??
what does this mean?
the bike only has one key a black one
the red key has been misplaced at some stage.
would this be a major problem with the bike or a minor one.
I don't have a manual for the bike so I'm in the dark the guy that owns it doesn't know ether as he has only done a 1000k's on the bike since he's owned it and says he hasn't noticed the light before.
does any one know whats up??

Do you have an after market exhaust on the bike? Usually that light comes on because the servo which controls the exhaust valve is no longer connected. Check under your seat and turn the ignition on, the first thing that moves under your seat is your exhaust valve servo. See if it connected to a couple of cables going to the tail of the bike or if it has some sort of adaptor bolted onto it. Punch in "05 zx6 servo fix" into YouTube to get a reference of what I'm talking about.

If you have stock exhaust check the servo for movement anyway; it should be moving freely.

The FI light should blink when the bike is off, only for 24 hours after the bike has been switched off. After that if the bike has not been turned back on it should stop flashing to conserve battery.
You can set it so it so it doesn't blink at all when the bike is off but I can't remember how to do it off the top of my head. If you want to know let know and ill have a look in the manual for you.

Probably fails the self test of the servo valve. Look up what it should have installed to prevent this. Some have a bar that limits stroke of the servo valve. Is the servo still installed?

not sure yet don't have the bike home yet.
have seen the bar setup on you tube but wasn't sure on what it did.
I assume it is some form of stop! like when the valve is fully open or shut?

It check both close and open and expects the servo to stall, henmce the stop added for both directions. I'm sure someone with electrical smarts can fool it.

There is a way to trick the ECU to think that it has recieved an all clear signal from the servo, but its easier to just put a piece of metal that stops the servo from turning at the right moment.

Otherwise piece of tape over the FI light, or just ignore it, it wont do any harm

Heres what the an after market servo bar looks like, it basically stops the servo at the right spot.
Excuse the pic but my I phone got a bit wet yesterday & the lens has condensation on it

Nobody has said it yet, but you are facing potential difficulties with not having the red key. The red key is the master key. Off this key, your black key, or any black key, can be coded to the ECU. Without coding the key to the ECU, the engine won't run. SO, at the moment, that isn't an issue for you. But, if you lose a black key, or you want to get another key cut, you cannot code the new key to the ECU, so it will never work! In addition to this, black keys can sometimes for no good reason, drop the codes out and have the ECU not recognise it. Then you need to re code it using the red key!! I'd be hunting down the previous, previous owner and see what you can do about getting that red key! 8)

I suspect you have purchased a Repo bike, repairable writeoff, statutory writeoff, or a stolen bike  Have you done a VEHICLE IDENTITY check ? (Not a REVS Check) only cost $17.00 and can be done via the RTA website if your in NSW.... If the previous guy got the bike from interstate you might not find out the true history............ Check with QLD Transport they may have a similar set up going....... good luck

did a bike history and revs check all come back clear.
never written off or stolen . no one has any money oweing on it so the bike is good apart from no red key but apparentlyy a good locksmith with the right software can clone the black keys with the need for the red one.
yet to get into the nitty gritty of things as i don't take delivery till saturday.
not too worried about the red key .
i'll get 1 if i have too later.
bike going to be a garage ornament till 7th October when i get my full R licence.so i'll get to do a few mods and get the condition up to my standards.
thanks for all the advise and pointers. it's been very enlightening.
