Is Redbook right.?
Duane sent me the redbook value of ZX10r's and this is what it says.
Trade in price guide* $9,500 - $11,200
National average price - private sale* $12,600 - $15,000
Price when new (RRP) $18,990
I did a search on the Trading Post, bikepoint and bikesales. The cheapest zx10 is $14000, (it is now $13400 and we know why, thanks Duane). Apart from that one, all the others start at over $15000 and up to $18000 for 2nd hand 2004 models.
The person that bought my zx9 got a bargain though..
1998 KAWASAKI ZX-9R
C1 Green/Blue Major Update - Light/More
Trade in price guide* $6,000 - $7,200
National average price - private sale* $8,300 - $9,900
Price when new (RRP) $15,990

Dave, the redbook is only a guide and should be treated as such.
The value of anything is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it.

So what science do you suggest Redbook use to get there info...
Gut feeling, instinct, or the dart board...
Surely Redbook information is based on sales figures and if so who is selling a zx10r for $12,600...?

a more accurate guide is "glasses guide" however that still needs to be taken with a wheelbarrow sized grain of salt. remember its a buyers market, and if some idiot is willing to buy their 14k zx10's, then that is the price that they shall ask.
Of course looking in the "second week" area of the post is always good as you may be able to knock the price down a bit

re: Is Redbook right.?
Dave did you bid on that 10?
re: Is Redbook right.?
Dave, i use the redbook for car/bike values at work.
the trade in value is pretty close, but private sale values are usually pretty far off.
they work on a nat. ave. and cars/bikes are more expensive in some states than others, so i've found being in vic, they undervalue.
May or may not help.
cheers, vince

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

re: Is Redbook right.?
This forum is founded on sarcasm closely followed by stating the bleeding obvious....
nevertheless this is what redbook says about where they get the info.
RedBook's price guides are derived from extensive research which encompasses obtaining details of sales through auction houses and motor dealers all around Australia, from vehicle manufacturers, from monitoring the classified advertising in every major publication in Australia and from actual field research. This vast volume of data is reviewed by RedBook's expert pricing panel and adjustments made. Each month RedBook changes around 30,000 prices in its database of over 50,000 vehicles.
So my question is valid... and who got the $12600 zx10r ..???

So we'll put that post into the Stating the bleeding obvious section then..??..James wrote:Didnt you know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

Who actually said that anyway... Someone with no sense of humour I bet...

Although I believe the complete phrase is, Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence...
I read that somewhere so it must be true..
