Hi All

Hi All

Just popping in to say hi from overseas. :kuda:
Just got my stock standard white ZX-6R like 3 weeks ago, has 500km on it now.

Just wondering if anyone can help me with this issue....

after 1st oil change, I took it back at 250km, I started to hear popping from exhaust after I get off the throttle.
haven't changed the type of petrol I use (regular 98oct), I haven't even changed the petrol station I take fuel from.

Its always pops when I get off the throttle and shifting down, constant boom boom boom, but once I crack throttle on, its disappears, accelerating is fine and smooth.

any ideas? change petrol station? change to superior 98 oct fuel? would they have messed with the fuel management system on 1st service?

I will ask them today, but its 930am over here and I've been thinking about my bike for...........gezz.....everyday since I got it.....I AM ADDICTED :D

I'll try link a pic later

THANKS GUYS

Welcome to KSRC wave.gif glad to hear about your new addiction.
Seems strange that you would get that sort of noise from a standard exhaust, I would consult the dealer that did the service... after all its under warranty.
If it was an after market pipe on the bike then I wouldn't worry too much.... all my injected bikes have done that with non genuine exhausts & no PC.

I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best.

Welcome Aboard! Nice choice of bike btw 8) I have an aftermarket pipe on mine and yeah she does pop a bit after harder acceleration. If your concerned ask the dealer I reckon but dont think its anything to be really concerned about.

Let us know what the dealer says :kuda:

Hi, took it back today, he actually said its 'normal'
He said the same as you guys 'if u stick an aftermarket exhaust on, its even more noticeable'
as to the stock exhaust, I told him that the popping was most evident going downhill, with throttle fully closed, he said its normal, lets hope dealer is right.

Its probably me too, getting obsessed with my toy, already washed bike, went back down to move bike out of puddle, and most likely will go back down to move bike to normal parking spot and cover it.

safe riding guys

Welcome Bearhk,

your popping during over run is possibly, and most likely caused by leaks in the exhaust system. Fresh air enters into the hot exhaust stream causing pops crackles and farts. The leak/s can be anywhere between the cylinder head (ie. the flange gaskets) and where the intermediate pipe joins the muffler. I reckon either end of the intermediate pipe is the most likely source of a leak.

If you are serious about tracking down exhaust leaks, dont forget the possibility of leaks at the shaft of the butterfly valve (if your bike has one) just upstream of the intermediate pipe..... If this is the site of the leak and cause of your popping; it will not be a simple matter of tightening up a clamp or flange. In Yamaha speak (they invented the system I think) it's called the EXUP valve. The first example (that I know of) of EXUP valves was on the Yam OWO-1... AKA FZR750R. Carl Foggarty set an outright lap record at the Isle of Man that stood for 7 years on one of these early 5 valve Yams.

Having said all that, there is another cause for a pop associated with over run, and that is, fuel building up in the exhaust system and being ignited. This phenomenon is often accompanied by a nice flame out of the muffler. My 05 Ninja thou does it from time to time, and it is so fvcking cool
