I'm looking at magnetic tank bags for my (soon to be) 94 ZXR 750.
I have my eye on a "Triple Tank System" from Nelson Rigg.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Here's what I'm after:
* Black
* Expandable
* Dettachable magnetic base which has it's own map pocket.
* Dettacbable as a back-pack
* Water proof cover would be nice
Cheers
James

I picked up a Hustler bag a few years back that has all of the features that you are after. Don't know what the current price is but they are very handy to have.
Be careful taking them on and off making sure you don't drag it across the paintwork. If you're doing a bigger trip where you'll be taking it on and off a lot, put some race tape on the tank where the magnets go to stop scratches.

I hate the bloody things

They end up with dust and grit on the underside when you take them off to re-fuel etc...not good. You can try covering your tank with tape to protect it but then taking the tape off a few weeks/month later after its been baked on by the sun can also stuff your paintwork up big time.
Go for a Ventura instead...

There's no problem leaving tape on for a couple of weeks. If you leave it on for months you deserve what you get

The only way they'd scratch the tank is if dust got underneeth them for a while, and if there is a LOT of dust, or if the material on the underside is smooth... fluffy/soft material will trap and somewhat "enclose" the dust.
Then it couldn't be too hard to just shake off the base and wipe down the tank every now-and-then on a long ride.
Thanks for the "Hustler" suggestion Mick C, haven't seen that one yet.
Wouldn't the magnets be inside some nice soft'ish material? Coz if it is, you'd have to drag the magnet pretty fast with lots of dust to scratch the tank.
Anyhoo, thanks for the advise from the scratch-scardies
But I'm willing to take the risk for the new bike (I plan on respraying the tank anyway).
Oh, and it always has a ventura setup.
I want the tank bag for carrying smallish stuff like a camera, pocket pc, gps, wireless harddrive (Asus WL-HDD
), maps, wallet, phone, blah blah blah.
I'm positive that a good "multi-layed" tank bag would be the most convenient thing one could ever have on a bike, esspecially a sports bike.
I can see it now; rock up to work on the bike, jump off, detatch the backpack section from the tankbag and run into the office with everything at hand.
WOOT.

The magnets in all the ones I've seen are big lumpy things enclosed in the base. They stick like shit to a blanket so you have to be careful with them.

Mmmm, good point.Mick C wrote:The magnets in all the ones I've seen are big lumpy things enclosed in the base. They stick like shit to a blanket so you have to be careful with them.
Well, I'm jup for the challenge (if there is one) so if I come up with some sneaky way of avoiding scratch without having to be too careful I'll let everyone know, haha.
