2006 ZX10R brake question *Brakes Fixed!!*

AS Blurr said, I ended up switching my 04/05 zx10r calipers (same as 06/07) to cbr calipers.
They are much better than the std zx10 calipers with no fade and good feel.
I also have a brembo MC so that helps a bit too.
I haven't compared the cbr calipers on track to the ZX6 nissins but in the pits checking the lever movemant on other bikes, the Nissins do feel like they pull up a bit better.
The CBR calipers are a lot cheaper though as there is more of them. Anything from the 04 to 08 cbr1000 and 05 to 09 cbr 600 will work as they are all the same. The 1000 had 5mm spacers so they could use the same calipers from the 600 with the bigger disks on the 1000.
You will need the spacers if you go with the cbr calipers. Theres a guy on ebay uk who sells em.
I got my calipers for $10 US + $40 us postage + about $18 - $20 Aus for the spacers....

Thanks for the feedback guys , I think I'll be chasing a set of Nissin off a ZX6 or ZX14. Yesterday I got a price from a WA wrecker that wants $360 for a set, one of the callipers has some minor scratches on it (see pic below). Does that sound like a reasonable price?

I got a brand new set off an '09 ZX6R from the US for US$199 + ~$50 delivery - all up about Aus$300.
Included were new Kwaka pads (in use) and lines (ditched).

I think Nissin are the dogs balls.

But in saying that i had zero brake fade on my 06 ZX10r on the weekend thats to a set of EBC Extreme Pro brakepads. my calipers are stock.

Unbelieveable brake pads, stopped ona dime, got numerous comments on how awesome i was on the brakes into turn 2 at EC in the FX1000 class.

How would you rate the EBC Extreme Pro against STD Kwaka sintered pads or EBC HH pads. My understanding is that EP pads are mega expensive compared to HHs - worth it?

Are the pads harder on the discs than other pads you've used.

in comparing them to the stick Kwakka HH pads, they bite better.

They work straight out of pit lane, dont need warming up. Zero fade on track.

Calipers were luke warm at end of a session.

Not sure about disc rear yet, but the discs done looke glazed at all, and the EBC extreme pads actually seem softer than the stock pads, i dont htink they will last super long.

I was Donated the Pads, but i believe they are quite expensive. But perfromance is awesome on track! if they last ok, i would consider buying them.

Thanks again for all your help and good advice guys . I got onto ebay on the weekend and scored a near new set of '09 ZX14 calipers (not a scratch on them) for AU$334 delivered from the US . I'm very excited, and can't wait to fit them on and finally feel safe on the old '04 ZX10R. There's nothing more demoralising and frustrating than having to brake too early on the straights because you just can't trust your brakes to stop you in time .

And u def don't need them on the rear brake... stick with OEM's or some cheap organic pads you def don't want a bitey pad on the rear

agree, I'm looking into how much PEs cost. I'll put a set of EBC HH on the rear (same as now).

One last question.

Do I use the brake lines that come with the Nissin calipers or do i use the standard ZX10 lines. The standard lines look like they will way too long with the banjo bolts on the Nissins being at the higthest point on each caliper and not half way down.

I only ask soo many questions as my closest bike shop is a 3.5 hour round trip so i want to have everything ready for the day of the sway. Plus no such thing as Sunday opening hours. All bike shops are shut by 12pm Saturday.

use the standard lines. they will be fine, juts make sure they cant run on anything when the forks compress.
