Even voted by the chinese as the ugliest car of the year. Sort of reminds me of a certain Bond villian. :D

2010 Ford Escape

Congrats Jason, (called you Marty earlier  ) well done mate, persistance got you there. 8)

About the choice:

Yep, we were happy with the previous one, just wanted to have a car which still has the new car warranty, seen it advertised for 28K drive away (normaly 30K), thought if the trade in is reasonable, we can have a new one with a few extra improvements like climate control, fog lights, cruse control, volume and chanell selector on stearing wheel, extra indicator lights on side mirrows, pull-out luggage cover, 6 stacker CD, and maybe a couple of other things I haven't noticed yet.
Had a factory towbar fitted to it. The black colour is hard to keep clean, but who cares? :kuda:
(Fergie can stay red, it's sexier in red 8) )

It's not much on performance but for the local conditions and speed limits, it does the job. Joy likes the fact that it's got good visibility and easy to get into and out of. ON occasions we're towing the old boat which is a heavy farbeglass half cabin Nautiglass, it does it with ease. Servicing, tyres and fuel consumption is also reasonable.

Thanks for everyone who participated, we certainly had fun with it, there were lot's of great suggestions and I'm not neccesarily reffering to the lime green Hummer with serious chromies, the gogomobils or Fiat's version of "The Homer", etc...

Cheers,

Pete & Joy

I know... I let it slide. :)

Could have something to do with the amount of time I've spent looking into engine bays. I'll admit though, that last guess had exhausted my knowledge of cars made in Taiwan.

Your clues pretty much gave it away in the end, especially the year.

And who would have thought we'd get six pages out of guessing what car you bought? You could probably have dragged it out for another week or two... :)

I'm sure you'll love the new car. the Mazada... err, Escapes are great cars. When we bought our Kluger we spent weeks looking around at new cars. Went to the car show and tried our kids prams in the back of all of them. What a bloody nightmare!

We did the same Aadvark, went looking at all the baby haulers and settled on a Murano. Our checklist was: Ease of loading a pram, had to have leather for easy clean up of the little ones mess with reclinable rear seats, responsive engine at low rpm for effortless city use (will never see offroad), AWD for safety in the wet, tall ride height to ease my back getting in and out as well as loading the bub, and it had to be modern with GPS and Ipod connect, and most of all comfortable.

Kaneg, don't be put off by the Taiwan/Chinese bits and pieces. Almost all major manufacturers have plants or partners in either Taiwan or the mainland these days. Not everything from China is as bad as the ebay copies we normally see for 1/10th the price. Besides Great Wall, I think Geely (reminds me of Adam Gilchrist) has big plans for Australia this year too.
