A world-first trial of on-road coaching for beginner motorcycle riders was announced today as part of a Brumby Labor Government strategy to improve motorcycle safety on Victorian roads.
I call bullshit - UK training and rider testing has been done on the road for years. I passed my test after a full 40 minutes with the examiner following along on his bike diving me directions on a 2 way radio. The test incorporated town roads, and 100km limits. They don't seem to think it is a good idea to let people loose after just riding at carpark speeds.

It was too easy to claim you wern't driving and they had no proof so the fines were thrown out of court. With a pic of the drivers face the conviction stands
How does a front facing camera picking up a front numberplate change that?
Because for cars it shows a view of the whole car and you can identify the driver. If Mrs Smith says she wasn't driving and they take it to court, she will be visible on the drivers seat (or not if she is telling the truth). This is why they use front facing cameras. It probably won't work like that for bike as the helmet will obscure the face.
Smitty your pretty good at digging up the media topics......
Heard something on the wireless today about a test group of 2400 riders whereby they would be divided 50/50 for those that receive and or seek further training in skills and roadcraft Vs the others that don't and go about it in the regular way to act as a control group.
Is anybody here a part of this testing? has anybody else got info on this?
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

Mike ... in NSW if you get done on a red-light camera ( rear photo ), the registered owner of the vehicle is required to nominate the drivers name and license details if the vehicle owner was not driving at the time of the offence.
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

Oh and Smitty, stupid question, of course the Vic gov will react.. more speed cameras are the answer, we all feel so much safer with the plethora of "safety" cameras we have here in Vic.
A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"
Looks like Mark Skaife is right saying people are too busy looking at their speedo and the ever changing limit speed signs, and they are not concentrating on their driving.

Truck driver runs red light, kills two young boys - 250 hours community service
Thug walked free after as two night rampage hunting victims as part of a gang in three cars using 2 way radios to coordinate the attacks. He was up for 14 counts of robbery. intentional injury and affray, plus this was the third time he breached his community order - 20 hours community service.
Repeat offender child molesters seem to get a slap on the wrist
YET. Man charged in contempt of court for blowing a bubble gum bubble - 30 days jail
3kph over the limit go straight to hell and hand over your life savings on the way.
Now consider why people speed...
Rediculus speed limits set more to entrap speeders than actually be safe.
Over zelous safety measures. If you approach the West Gate bridge at 100Kph, and the bridge limit is 40 due to road works, the speed differential is enough to cause an accident. How can I drive down main street through shoppers and kids and old grannies at 50, yet need to be slowed on a freeway to 40 becasue a worker is behind a concrete barrier with metal fences? We wouldn't mind 40 school zones if they didn't build schools on highways.
Then every set of lights is set to turn red, just after the previous light goes green. We spend out motorling life crawling from red light to red light. We have somewhere to be and try and make up that time. All this does is make us speed up trying to beat the lights, trying to get to our destination in a reasonable time. As for the environment, Think of the reduction in fuel emissions if traffic was controlled and flowing rather than conjested.

Thats just a prime example of the complete and utter contempt the Bigwig, Bigheaded and Arrogant "upper"

We get the info on how many riders have been killed but a serious lack of "detail",
if they want to punish us then I would like an accurate and case by case breakdown of the causes....
eg:Incidents that involve Cage driver's, whether directly or indirectly.... drugs? alcohol? fatigue? experience?
I'd like to know how many of these deaths were able to be prevented by front number plates?
