Broadford ASBK Cancelled...!!
ASBK: Next weekend’s Broadford ASBK round cancelled
Posted: 23 Jun 2010 | Posted By: Alex Gobert | Section: Breaking News | Comments: 0 | ShareThis
The Broadford round of the 2010 Viking Group Australian Superbike Championship has been cancelled by series promoter International Entertainment Group.
IEG director Yarrive Konsky confirmed late this afternoon to MotoOnline.com.au that the round scheduled for next weekend at the technical Victorian circuit on 2-4 July won’t be going ahead, citing a lack of entries as the primary reason for the event’s cancellation.
“At this stage I can confirm we have had to cancel the event, however a press release is set to be issued regarding the round tomorrow morning,” Konsky commented.
It was just last week that IEG added Superbike, Supersport, 400cc and Junior non-championship ASBK Cup racing to the schedule in what was seemingly a move to try and boost entry numbers alongside the point-scoring Superstock 1000 C and D, Superstock 600 and 125/250-Mono Grand Prix classes.
However, the round has now been scrapped altogether in a disappointing blow to the series.
The Broadford round marked the lone event of the season that wouldn’t be featuring the premier Superbike and Supersport categories, intended as a development class-only round on the 2010 series calendar.
It is believed that competitors who had entered for the round have been informed of the decision this afternoon.
Check back tomorrow for updates behind the round’s cancellation and an official statement from IEG.

Re: Broadford ASBK Cancelled...!!
hmmmm interesting.
why would ASBK have a meeting at Broadford without the premier classes anyway? track not suited to high HP racing?

ASBK: IEG releases statement on Broadford cancellation
Posted: 24 Jun 2010 | Posted By: Alex Gobert | Section: Breaking News | Comments: 0 | ShareThis
Queensland's ASBK round will mark a double-header for the development classes in August.
MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon received this following statement from International Entertainment Group director Yarrive Konsky, further confirming the cancellation of the Australian Superbike Championship round at Broadford, Victoria, that was previously planned for next weekend on 2-4 July. We’ve decided to post it in its entirety as it came directly from IEG.
“In keeping with its commitment to promoting Australian road racing at the highest level, International Entertainment Group (IEG) has advised that the Broadford round of the Australian Superbike Championship due to be contested on 3-4 July will now be integrated with the upcoming Queensland Raceway round on 19-22 August.
Despite a promising response, the required support within the ASBK State Cup classes for Broadford was not reached, making the event financially unfeasible. Though regrettable, after much consultation within the industry, IEG feels the decision is in the best interest of those involved - riders, teams and spectators.
In fairness to competitors in the scheduled championship classes - Superstock 1000 C and D, Superstock 600 and 125/250-Mono Grand Prix, a double-header round will be held at the 19-22 August event at Queensland Raceway.
All other classes will run as originally planned and an updated schedule will be provided in due course.
IEG will be releasing information on next year’s calendar and classes as soon as possible. Several discussions have taken place with Motorcycling Australia, riders (both privateer and factory) and sponsors. IEG believes the new direction will suit a more diverse range of competitors, whilst ensuring the current competitors have higher-profiled premier categories to compete in and or aspire to be in.”
