Post by rod185651 »

I just got emailed this tonight, track days seem the cheaper option these days.

link shows footage of where they are hiding in the bushes ,taken by mate. He is out of pocket $1600 and out of circulation for 6mths.Those who run through there regularly may recognise this spot .South Coast Ducati Riders Club - Be aware H.J.

They're not using a speed camera so they're not doing anything wrong. They can hide using a hand held radar wherever they like, however you have to be pulled up down the road by an officer after they've radio'd ahead, which is what they are doing. I'm a bit intrigued though why there is video footage, that seems suss. I'd still be concerned though

I'm unsure of how authentic it is, but the person who sent it to me is someone whom I trust and when I got emailed the link it definately made me concerned enough to post it here and on another forum that I'm a member of, if it is a joke I'm not in on it.

I've Just been told that my mate got the link from a post on the South Coast Ducati Riders Club forum.
Still doesn't help authenticate whether it's a joke or not I guess.

Here is the thread with pictures from the Ducati forum, you'll notice the double white lines in the photos and a single white line on the video, I'm going to call two unrelated events that somehow got tied together

Hey guys, I'd bet my last dollar that it's for real.
Most traffic cops run a camera when ever they're working. Heck, even general duty cops often have an audio recorder running. They need to be able have visible proof should the fine be contested and taken to court. This way they can say that speed was by that bike and also document the illegal over take. However, they quality of the recordings are never anything like you see on the tv cop shows.

The guy filming will be a copper as well. There are two officers so one writes the offence and the other serves as a witness. As they are sworn members, their verbal recording of the speed is enough as they have a second witness. At any rate, many of the guns have a memory to recall later should they please. You will often see a couple of cops standing on a metropolitan corner filming people driving while on phones, turn at no turn signs etc. At the end of the shift they write the tickets and post them out.

As for the uniform, there's nothing to say they're not in uniform. There quite a fewq different uniforms for different devisions doing different things. There are usually several styles of uniforms Obviously they want to be inconspicuous. In fact an off duty cop can legally book you. Although it is not recomended as you have no back up or support should it turn to shit.

Also radar gun is the correct model for Vic and Qld police aswell. Not sure of NSW though.

How the video got out? When you're found guilty of an offence, you are entitled to a copy of the footage. However as there is footage of three riders, i'd say some will get an arse kicking. 8)
It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even if chequered with failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, as they live in grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.

Seems legit to me, and I've handed out enough fines to consider myself informed.

There's no requirement to have two coppers there. Most of my work is done on my own. The advantage of having two coppers there is that one of them can hold the camera and the other can use the hand-held radar/laser.
