My Other Bikes

Post by DieselKwaka »

These are the 'other' bikes from the 'other' bike makers that i still own (until wifey finds a way to sell the other 2)

Yellow beast is my 1982 GSX1100SZ Katana. According to some contacts in the Post Classic Racing Association, this probably is an import back in the day, for Warren Walker, for the Castrol 6 hour at Amaroo Park. Warren Walker was also the original owner of the now-known-as Helmet Warehouse in Yagoona. He had all his Kats yellow, and this is original paint for the bike. In fact, its the same yellow flake pearl Suzuki used on the SV650 and SV650s models, in the old curvy shape and later angular shape. The VIN number is registered in the logs, but no evidence of it being raced.
Its like a massive 1980s style Hyabusa. Its very comfy to ride, wallows like a whale, and turns heads like nothing else ive ever owned!! i REALLY REALLY dont want to part with this bike. Its an iconic 80's muscle bike that is getting hard to find and pulling some major $$ still.

The TL1000R is a 2001 model. in the race white/blue. Is also the rarist of the 6 year model range white/blue colour schemes. This bike has been my Unicorn. It was the one bike i always loved, but could either never find 1, or afford 1 at the time. When i finally found this one, it was 100% original, with 7,000km on the clock. The dude who bought it new, was to scared to ride it, so he never did. But, like me, couldnt bring himself to part with the bike.
The reason why the fairings are off, is because i'm in the middle still of repairing it. I was 'Tee-boned' but a P-plater on the way to work Jan 2009. i bought it back after fighting her insurance company, fully rebuilt it, but am stuck at the point where i need $4k to buy new plastics for it. Once i have them, shes back on the road. I love riding this bike on the old road. And i love the V-twin power & noise she makes.

This was my first big bike. (i also killed the shit out of it)
Had a few mods to this. installed a 2006 GSXR750 front end, and a 2006 ZX10-R rear shockie. It was a hot rod, except it couldnt ride it. I spaked out on a corner near Sofala, nearly killed myself, and killed the bike.

So, im out of the Suzuki's, and onto the Kwaka's. What got me to change, is the Kwaka Z. Its a great machine, (and also that Suzuki dont make anything like it) and i really love my new purchase of the 2010 Z. I dont want to do to much to it, except ride it as much as possible, and thats where you lot all fit in....

Keep me out there on the road, rubber side down, and shinny side up :D

"....I spaked out on a corner" ....... LOL I haven't heard that term in a while ....made me chuckle (the term....not the nearly killing yourself bit!). Might be time to head out to 'that' corner and get it out of your system on the new toy. I'm thinking a Tarana/Sofala ride (or weekend?) might be in order?!?!

Love the Katana, you can keep the Suzi.....the Kwaka is just 8)

Yeah, i should face that corner and get over my demons. Good thing, is I know what went wrong. It was a simple mistake of to much entry speed, picked the wrong line, and way to cocky racing up the front of the pack. Thats why i like sticking in the middle pack now. its a more comfortable pace for me.

A really good run, is up Putty road.....Sandy Hollow.... Rylestone etc etc, Sofala... Bathurst etc. But that could be another post for another time.

When the kat is all finished, i will ride her up the Pie for some viewing satisfaction, and some photo opportunities. She is staying mostly standard. The exhaust is what im changing. managed to find a 'Black Piper' system for it. Its simply a 4 into 2 black power coated system into megaphone style mufflers. In the later years (1983-85 models) Yoshi made the race tuned 4 into 1 system.

Booking out a cabin or 2 at the Tarana pub is always a good stop-over. Might need to plan this one ;) Doing it in 'winter' is interesting but fun all the same :)

Nice Katana mate. I still reckon the best looking bike made (for it's time). I actually started looking around a little while back for one of these for a project
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
