Returning riders study (Vic)
Monash University and HART want to hear from you
The Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and Honda Australia Rider Training (HART) are still seeking "returning riders" to participate in a study which aims to help identify the types of training, licensing and countermeasures that would be most beneficial for reducing crash involvement.
The one-hour study involves three separate rides, road, simulator and range (at HART's headquarters in Somerton), and is being funded by the TAC's compulsory motorcycle registration levy. Participants who qualify will be reimbursed $70 for their time.
A returning rider for the purposes of the study is defined as someone who:
* Used to ride and covered no less than 20,000km in those years
* Stopped riding for a period of five years or more
* Returned to riding in the past six months and ridden between 500-1000km in that period.
Participants must:
* Wear appropriate protective clothing during the riding segments
* Have their own registered and roadworthy motorcycle
* Hold a full motorcycle licence
"We are conducting the research in order to contribute to a larger study that aims to find out more about the training needs and contributing factors for returning riders who are involved in crashes, and to make comparisons between new and experienced riders," said MUARC's Christine Mulvhill. "Previous research has suggested that the pattern of riding by returning riders may be contributing to the changing crash trend.
"In addition, research has shown that compared to new and continuing riders, returning riders are more likely to ride in rural areas, more likely to use their motorcycles for touring/weekend riding, and less likely to undertake training.
"Ultimately we hope that the findings of these studies will inform new strategies and programs aimed at significantly reducing these statistics."
Anyone who is interested in participating and meets the criteria should contact HART, tel (03) 9270 1377.

Are these the clowns that determine high risk areas
so the gumbyment can then install cheese cutters on evey other corner
reduce the speed limit from 100 to 80 on arguably the best motorcycling roads in victoria
that help produce stratgies to assist vic police in reducing speeding -video / camoflage technolgies
yeah were do i sign up - im all over this mick
why the hell ,would i be suppoting this .............victoria is the nanny state
if this lead to better outcomes for all stakeholders i would applaud the effort
but the end result is we get the rough end of the pineapple again !!!!!
loss of license lose points finiacial disadvantage loss of enjoyment
call me bitter and twisted , ffs i just wanna open the throttle on a sunday clean out the cobb webbs
without hurting a soul if ya dont mind without being harrased
any chance of some constructive stratergies
the options seem endless if given some thought as opposed to listening to some crony who happens to visit
high risk areas, parks his / her van and takes stats over a two week period who concludes
there were 32 red bikes and 17 green bikes and 12 blue bikes on the spurs
its a high risk area ...suggested stratergy
wire rope barriers ..,.and 80 ks speed zone .....yeah thats a solution a pretty retarded one id say
rant over ....carry on normal transmission

Re: Returning riders study (Vic)
Mick, its got fuck all to do with road evaluation and all the crap you're dribbling about. HART are after riders to evaluate the usefulness (or not) of advanced rider training, it's funded by VMAC, that's all.
We (riders) all believe that rider training makes us better, safer riders, reality is noone has ever done any studies to prove or disprove. Govt's theory has always been train a person to ride better then they will ride faster too.

i dont care about the govt theory ...really
who actually funds monash accident research centre mick
the study is being funded by the tac = my rego
money not being spent well in my book
i care about my sport ... my right to ride without being harrased out of it..... by these nanny state do gooders ...
goverment sucking departments ...taking my hardearned in the vain attempt
to keep road stastics down ....when theres been an unprecidented uptake of motorcycling
gees louise im not smart ... but wouldnt you expect a signifigant increase of crashes
in relation to the amount of new riders etc etc
as i said if they really cared , and encouraged riders to re train , gain skills .ride in appropriate gear
rise smart , value riders .educate cagers . and embrace the riding community in a positive light
rather than the draconian (spell check ) view point held by most gumbyments
im sure this wouild lead to more positve outcomes and results
but dont ask a rider to spell out which road to condem
so as to merely reduce the speed limit and install wrbs to satsify all and sundry
cos we care about you ............. yeah sure
sincere apologies to all who read this dribble
can you tell im a little pissed at these try hards that just soak up valuble dollars
that could be better spent on the motor cycling communtity at large
not supprting negative sterotypical models or theories of yester year
my 2 cents is the same as yours mick only different from your point of view
and ive ran out of beer as well

Mate i'm at work, no beer at all, not sure if that;s worse than running out or better in that i'm at least not able to start.. and that's pissed off, pissed is an American expression
Hear what you're saying re the nanny state too, why you think I sold my 9? Simply because of the anal speed limits that don't let me ride it in the way it's supposed to be, both spurs and GO Road have coppers in camos no less with radar guns waiting for you so any chance of opening it up and enjoying yourself is likely to end up with a ticket.
And hazarding a guess they will probably be cracking down even harder after this weekend where we lost 4 riders in Vic.

Lost 24 this year in Vic so far
(ABC Radio this morning)
Because you need to be 100% concentrating on the road not your fucken SPEEDO
Most are in the older age bracket too because we "TRY" to stay at the speed limit
Sunshine.....you are my Sunshine

These would be the clowns trying to work out why born again bikers are fast becoming the highest fatality group in the motorcycle community.sunshine wrote:Are these the clowns that determine high risk areas

The simple answer is most rode as kids on RD250s or worse, and now find they have the money and free time to buy their teenage dreams. Unfortunately their previous experience taught them large amounts of throttle made them go a bit quick, and on a R1 it makes them go stupid quick to ther deaths.
Buy hey, if you can con a four year study out of it instead of working....

I agree with that in spirit, but mostly I think it's because there were no bloody foreigners on the road back then.photomike666 wrote:These would be the clowns trying to work out why born again bikers are fast becoming the highest fatality group in the motorcycle community.sunshine wrote:Are these the clowns that determine high risk areas

We're not used to having to watch our speedo's AND concentrate on the wankers who couldn't drive a nail!

Yup, can't ride a sportsbike anywhere fun at a speed that's fun (yet safe) to ride at so screw it, sold the 9, going bush, no cameras there
Don't have to look at the speedo either. Just gotta remember how to ride in the dirty stuff again..
