Re: Cya Riker!
That sux mate
We lost 2 of our 3 dogs in the last 12 months , one from pancreatitise & the other from old age.
The old girl had zero quality of life, was a case of the mind was willing but the body wasn't able.
Silv took a long time to make the painfull decision to put her to sleep, but it was for the better.
Condolences to you and your family Aardy
RIP Riker.

Re: Cya Riker!
I'm so sorry to hear about Riker Jason. I went through this last year and while we all know it's the right thing to do for Riker, it is emotionally exhausting. I hope he has you by his side as he goes to sleep? Best wishes mate.

Re: Cya Riker!
He was as bright and energetic as normal this morning, but there were signs things weren't right.
Lameness in one leg.
Constant licking of his two other legs.
The skin on his tummy has been flaky and fragile.
A weird cough from deep in his lungs.
Took him down this morning. I figured that if I was the one who had to make the decision for him, then I should be brave enough to be there for him. He kept chomping on snacks right up until the last minute - that's my boy!!
Now that I'm home, I feel sick, and the house is one family member less.
RIP old mate.

Me too. That's why I've now had two of them. Their personalities have been so different, and as big as they are, they are great with kids. He was fairly small for a Mal, at 52 kilos.MrWasabi wrote:call me a soft cock but I've always had a soft spot for the malamutes.![]()
They say that Mals don't make very good guard dogs, but it would take a brave man to enter my yard if I wasn't home.
On the plus side, I now won't have to fill 3 garbage bags full of dog hair every year!

Re: Cya Riker!
Sorry to hear it Jase, was wondering if amputating the leg affected might have been an option but reading on further, it seems clearly not, time to look for a number 3 I suggest. Chekov, Spock? I only know the old Star Trek NFO on this new generation shit.

Sorry to hear about this mate. At least you got to have plenty of good times with him and he didn't suffer too much in the end.
