ZX9R Crash Knobs

Post by macca »

Folks,

We got some crash knobs from Kaneg today, and there's nothing wrong with them, we are just wondering whether we'd be better with the bigger ones which bolt to the engine mount rather than these ones which bolt to a fairing mount?

The ones we got are these ones:

And while Pete says they're the only ones for the nine there's another part number on the included brochure and on the interwebs that's these ones (7504509), which appear to bolt onto the engine mount:

We found this post in a search:

They're the kaneg ones, and we know they're not supposed to protect from all damage but should we see if we can get the other ones? Can't find any comparisons between the fairing mount ones and the engine mount ones...

Pete?

Have the Kaneg crash knobs on my 9 and saved me from grief at least once now, your call of course just not sure it's worth paying more for the other versions.

I've got the R&G engine mount ones on mine and rate them highly. I think the difference is that the engine mount ones are useful in a higher speed slide whereas the smaller fairing mount ones are really only for a low-speed fall in the garage. Having said that, however, I had the small ones on my old 9 when it went for a slide at 100km/h at EC turn 7 and they held up well.

Hi Macca, I've currently got the Kaneg ones (well, one of them anyway) on my trackbike, a 98 zx6r. they save it totally from a topple over in the garage a while back, in my recent spill at EC, the left one snapped off, since there is very little damage to the fairings, I'm guessing once it was in the gravel its dug in and snapped then. The only other manufacturer I can find who makes them for my 6 is OzyKnobs, which bolt onto the engine mounts, they require cutting the fairing which is no big deal for the trackky. I've picked up a pair of these though hopefully I won't be trying them out any time soon

Hey Tony,

We haven't got item number 7504509 in stock, I'll try to add to our order, which is due to get here in the second part of April. Swapping it over is not a problem, there will be a few bucks difference naturally, but no second mortgage ;)

Shall keep you posted on it in the next few days.

Cheers,

Pete
