I didn't think much of it to be honest - several things he wrote I disagree with or dislike.
But it also makes some good points and it's better than nothing, so I won't whinge because his views aren't exactly the same as mine.

Won't get far...all levels of government rely on revenue...giving something away will never catch on...

Re: A good motorcycle story..
they do like giving some things away...
the government just sold the state lottery from which they profited $300 million a year, every year... they sold it for $1 billion...
the government also gives away land to developers who donate to the party... then they set up special commities stacked with 'friendly' people to give away this land so the government can say its been done independantly...

Yeah mainly form the pushie riders...... It's actually pretty funny to see the Lycra brigade copping a bit. He probably would have acheived more for motorcyclists though if had of just left the flying cockatoo's out of it.Frank wrote:Yeah good article, but he is copping a flogging in the replies section.
It was refreshing to see a journo put a positive spin on Motorcyclists though.

Re: A good motorcycle story..
A common sense, backed with real benefits of motorcycling.
What many people don't realise is that Motorcycle trips make up less than 0.1% of vehicular trips in NSW (RTA figures a couple of years ago) now imagine if that figure was increased to say 5% during peak hour, that 5% less cars on the road would have an exponential effect on traffic congestion.
However the reduction in petrol tax revenue, parking levies, tolls etc would need to be offset as this is lost revenue for the government, thus why it will never happen.
Simple maths really.
Nick

Re: A good motorcycle story..
sad to see the ever over sensitive 'lycra dandies' getting on their soap boxes once again, the moment someone mentions motorbikes being good, and that cyclists slow down traffic, they seem the think that its inciting violence against them, they all need to get over themselves and see the actual point of the story.
I have been stuck at traffic lights for nearly 20 minutes before because a pack of wankers on tredlies were sitting in the right turn lane, and wouldnt move so i could get over the sensors so the turn signal would go green, they just sat there, after 3 or 4 minutes on the horn they moved forward, and when the light went green they just sat there, and then eventually took off slowly, right in the line of the rest of the traffic, but no, they dont slow down traffic or cause congestion at all. They are always in the right, and can do nothing wrong, because their bike doesnt produce pollution, pity the diets most of them eat cause them to produce more, pity it also comes out of their mouths.

Re: A good motorcycle story..
nobody sees the irony in motorcycling being treated like an outcast and a pain, then the same people complaining about that will complain about cyclists in the exact same way?

Re: A good motorcycle story..
I spent 10 years in the city watching these psycho treadly riders create havoc, and downright intimidate pedestrians and roadusers, the reason? They have zero accountability, motor vehicle users have rego plates, making them (well 90% of the time) accountable for their actions. I've seen mirrors knocked off, windows smashed out, people assaulted as they ride past, with the worst being a child knocked over whilst crossing the street with his mum on a green man. Road use and congestion aside, these people need to be made accountable, and registration is the only way to do it.....
