It’s actually pretty easy dropping the motor out by yourself. Place an old tyre under the engine, remove the top clamp, and lift the bike enough to remove the whole front end assembly ; then you can lower the bike down onto the tyre. If you want to remove the engine, I’m happy to come over and give you a hand some time.

Not until February -March, want to get Xmas out of the way and hopefully let the property market calm down a little. Not really sure where, but probably somewhere round here still ; wife is looking for a larger house, and I'm reuqiring a much bigger garage and workshop !

Got myself an original exhaust system from UK. Cost me both arms and legs so I'm totally crippled now but am happy it is now all original stock on this bike will be taking all the fairings to have it fix and paint this weekend.
Got some paint today for the GPZ900 but decided not to go with the original paint code. Got a darker gray and bright hot red instead and the paint scheme will probably go with the A16 model. Will post up some pictures when the paint work begins.
Mine's quite faded and thinking about dropping it out while I have the opportunity to do a respray in matt black with gloss black on the side covers (or powder coat).
I've had to order a starter relay and about to start working on the brakes - rebuild the callipers and master cylinders.
Let me know if you're ordering from Uk - we could share the costs of freight

My engine is still in good condition. As for the paint work it is in average condition but I won't be dropping it out until the engine need overhaul. so I'll just do abit of touch here and there to try to make it look good. The frame is in good condition as well and with only very minimum rust on the welded part so a little bit of work on it so be OK. If I'm going to take the engine out it will definitely be the day it need overhaul and every single parts will be strip off fora 100% restore But rego will run out in Jan 2010 so I'll be fixing up all the faults and flaw for this project.
I'll be ordering some small parts from GPZZONE, mind you these small parts will probably cost me over AUD$500. I'll be changing all nuts and bolts to stainless as well. I have bought an original complete exhaust system so will be looking for ceramic coating. So far found Competition Coating at Guildford and Tuffytoned at Rosebery. the exhaust system need to get rid of rust from the welded parts and ceramic coated so it should last a very long time.
We can discuss more about sharing the cost of freight and our project when we meet up coming Thursday. I checked this forum on almost daily so you can either post it up or pm me.

Good to know you bought a GPZ9. Post up some pictures for us. Mine is still getting respray and will be ready...hopefully before X'mas Let us know if you require info on the GPZ9.
will post up some pictures once its re assembled at the moment it kind of looks like the pics of my gpx250 that are on here somewhere but then again so far everybike ive bought has had a similar fate of me buying it then respraying it and fixing it up
i picked it up for $600 so that makes 6 bikes so far ive bought all for under a grand each and people say you cant get bikes that cheap
only real issues this one has atm is a hole in the radiator which once my mate turns up (he has radiator repair putty stuff) that should be fixed then i have to replace the battery and rear tyre and bolt it all together and register it
so hopefully tomorrow it will get its first test run to the end of the street and back to see if there is anything else to do before i register it wednesday

It has been awhile since I started the restoration and had to put a stop due to work commitment until Sid from GPZZONE started organising the downunder GPZ meetup. since then I had to push my friend to get the fairings and tank painted which he did but unfortunately his dog knock down the feal tank and put a dent to it. As for the fairings that bloody dog of his put a lot of scratches on every single piece of the fairing. i thought of his dog. This not only upset my friend but it upset me big time as I need all bits and pieces to put it back so I'll be ready to meetup all the GPZ900 boys in Bathurst. Well it doesn't happen.....
Anyway the fairing have to be sand down again and the fuel tank have to be fix. At this stage it looks like this without laqeur spray on it:
Shame about the paint, Frankie. I've got a little bag of sundry bits and pieces for you, if you're interested - can bring it into town one day (although I'm down at DP1 now).
When's the Bathurst meet ? I'd love to come along at look at some nice GPz9s.
