Be more selective in who they allow to have a license for one. IMHO the lack of skill and knowledge about controlling a vehicle that is required to get a license is a major contributing factor to our road toll, but it is still completely ignored. You wouldn't want your surgeon to have an IQ of 70 and poor hand eye coordination and for good reason the government is very selective who they allow to operate on people. Why is it then we let these people behind the wheel of a car regardless of how incompetent they might be? (yes, I know of people who fit this description who have attained their licenseWhickle wrote:What else do you all suggest the gumbyment do to stop people from reckless, unsafe driving, speeding and killing themselves or others??

It scares me that people can fail their P's test 10 or more times and then finally scrape through and get their license and are trusted from that point on as a competent driver. For one thing the testing is way too simple and should include some demonstration of an ability to handle a vehicle in emergency situations, but if you are that useless that you cannot pass our very basic requirements in the first couple of goes, then maybe driving is not for you.
Yes it would create issues by making it more selective but people would learn to adjust just like they are expecting us to adjust to new speed limits. Simply put, there are some people in this world who are not skillful enough to be trusted with operating potentially deadly machinery and I would rather see these people unlicensed than swerving into my lane because they misjudged another corner.
