Not necessarily :shock:
Simple.....just reverse the little rubber hoses going to the fuel tap ;)
See what happens, cant do any harm

I think I'd be taking it back and asking why it wasn't checked - can't hurt to ask the question / demonstrate that it's not working after paying your $$. There shouldn't be anything to pay.
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!

the symptoms are classic fuel starvation. If all the breather hoses / breathers check out OK, then the problem must be related to the fuel tap ....

Did your mechanic replace the tap or the diapghram in the fuel tap ? What about the filter on top of the tap, which sits up inside the tank - is this clean ? It's little things like this which can often be overlooked.....worth checking out anyway.

It's a situation where you have to eliminate problems one at a time......eventually, you will find the problem !!

I dont think he replaced any of the above... and i dont remember him mentioning anything about it and it definitely doesnt reflect on the bill he gave me... Gonna phone another mechanic today... he does house calls so Ill mention all these points to him and see what he says... Just wanna thank all of you for all your input on this matter... I really appreciate it... the mechanics in South Africa are not prepared to help or give advice at all... all they say is get rid of it asap.... assholes

You could find that the fuel filter on the tap, is as dirty as buggery and letting through bugger-all fuel......this fits with your description of the symptoms...

Hmm, if you're prepared to wait until September/October, me and the missus are heading to S.A. around world cup time (at least that's the plan).

I think gos is on the lead there about the filter though, it lets fuel through, fills up the float chamber, you start the bike, it drains the float chamber faster than the crappy filter can let in new fuel. Bike stalls, fuel slowly drips into carbs over the next 4-5 minutes of waiting. Wash, rinse repeat, headbutt the wall in frustration.

So guys... little old me checked the hoses from the fuel tap last night. Like you all said there were 2. One thin one and a thicker one. The thinner one of the two had a "T" join on it which connected to the front section of the carbs and the thicker one ran down to single connection at the bottom of the carbs. Everything looked pretty normal to me. She still only idled for 2 min. If I put the tap on "prime" she idled for 10min before I switched her off.

Oh and another thing I noticed... I opened up the oil cap and noticed a white milky substance in the inside of the cap. NOT GOOD I expect...

If whats in the sump is milky...........uh oh!

It may be that the milky oil under the cap is relatively normal if the bike has only run for a couple of mins. My ZZR600 did this, it just seems to be condensation causing it and a good run burns it off.

However if the entire sightglass shows milky oil, or if you drain the oil and this is milky, then things are not good at all...especially given the amount of money you have already spent on it.

Welcome by the way, I spent some time in Durban when I was a young boy, it was beautiful country from what I can recall, much like parts of Australia. We sailed out of Cape Town on the way here.
