The Scooter Debate

Post by zx6rider »

Today was a nice day in town...

Until I saw a guy riding a scooter in his shorts and singlet...This really bothers me that the people who ride these things think that they are immune from the bumps, breaks and bruises they will recieve if they fall off, this attitude probably stems from the fact that they think their scooters are not large enough or fast enough to cause them injury.

Now I dont want to put all scooter riders in this catagory as some of them do wear the right gear and protect themselves.

What really bothered me about this guy was that he had a child who would have been between the ages of 6 to 8 sitting on the back of the scooter wearing nothing more than shorts and a singlet top also, the childs feet were not on footpegs they were just hanging off the sides of the scooter :x :x :x :x :x

Now is it just me or does this bother anyone else?

Thats my rant over............

SEE post ... IF i was ever going to squid or sumfing ..recent post you'll find a whole different atitude to what normaly prevails on this forum as to riding without full gear...........i was personally bemused by the change of tack

must be hot weather!!!!!!!!!! so as was said in that post for f##k sake if your going to ride without gear ride accordingly
take exceptional care ..this will not save you from other road using idiots, or unexpected hazards.
AS FOR THE CHILD THING ...that's just stupid if the kid can't reach the pegs...but it's the parents decision as to clothing..foot peg reach and age is now legally enforcable in VIC (the nanny state) but would agree with ability to reach foot pegs for pillion stability.

and the lord said "EMBRACE the scooter riders they are leaning in the right direction TWO WHEELS"

I use to care, but after a while and seeing that many people squid on the road you just don't care. You also know the squids haven't had a decent stack yet, and when they do, they probably won't get back on a bike and will say something along the lines of "it's dangerous"...

Scooters also make funny noises.

What bothers me is if they do have an off ( either their fault or someone else's ), the resulting injuries may increase premiums ( CTP/comp ) for the rest of us. It also attracts the attention of the legislators ..... and we know they don't want two-wheeled vehicles on the road. :x
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

And when its more than a little Bark?...... I spent a few years doing 4B's when MRA existed in NSW & had hundreds of visits to hospitals to help out injured riders, when you see some of the "bark off" its not hard to work out that there is a huge risk factor involved, & we are not talking a little graze here, I have seen people spending 4 months+ in hospital having skin grafts from other parts of the body to cover the damage, I cant start to imagine the pain factor......

seiko, no one can tell you what to wear, ultimately its your choice & yes luckily you have that freedom of choice... I seriously doubt that will change in a hurry :D

Shouldn't this thread be titled the squid debate? I've seen scooter riders well protected and bike riders with singlet and thongs.......

I also believe in the freedom of choice, If I choose to ride in my shorts and singlet and have an off, then thats my fault, but I think its totally wrong that the child didnt have the choice to wear protective clothing.

As a kid my old man told me to wear all the gear all the time, and I realise that he was just trying to ensure that if there was an accident then hopefully my injuries would have been reduced by wearing protective gear.

If ya don't care for ya self, care for the ones who go hungry coz you haven't worked for 6 weeks, when with leathers you could have been back earning after two days....

If ya don't care for ya self, care for the ones who have to spend hours with tweesers and gauze picking the gravel out of your blood soaked body, or the people they could have been saving if you had have had leathers on.

But you're right, it nice to have a choice - it's nice to be able to choose not to spend weeks in pain, it's nice to choose not to clog up the hospitals with unnecessary surgery, it's nice to choose to set a good example to our kids so they don't scar them selves for life at an early age.
