New here....

Post by Helmet Head »

Hey...

just bought myself a 94 ZXR 750 (not sure what model  ). Love it. Gave it about a two hour ride, now it's in pieces in my shop waiting to be painted. While that's happening, I plan on taking off the wheels and polishing the rims, as currently one is pink, and the other purple...can't in good conscience ride it like that.
Anyway...I am an airbrush painter in the Sydney area...open fo business. I will post before and after pics of my bike shortly. Glad to be here.

Here's a pic of the bike as it was before doing anything. I'm presently searching for someone who wants to help me take the wheels apart so I can polish or paint them in return for a case of beer. I would do it myself, but I can imagine putting it back together and finding out that there are a bunch of spare parts that I have no idea where they go.

Any takers?

The wheels are easy, knock the front calipers off, pull the axle and drop the wheel (use a headlift stand or some ratchet straps into the roof trusses of your shed) then take out the bolts holding the rotors on.

With the rear (from memory), take the axle out, take the caliper off downways, and then just unbolt the rotor and take the sprocket off the sprocket carrier and you should have it apart enough to polish (except tyres and valves).

Thanks Bogan.

Question #1- What's a caliper?

Etc. Etc.

I know where the gas goes. Full stop.

Welcome HH. Where abouts in Sydney are you? You might be close to someone who can help.

Was the ZXR already converted to a streetfighter when you picked it up?

Hey Nelso,

I'm in Ryde.

Yup...that's the bike as I collected it. The guy had no fairings to go with it, but I kind of like the way it looks. Different.

Seiko...Petrol...right. Still trying to pick up the Aussie language. I hear you speak English here, but it's a bit different from the Canadian dialect :) .

Question#1...answered. Question #2...How does one "Pull the axle"?
Never mind the answer...there is no way I will try this unsupervised...that would lead to a disaster. Hence, me putting the call out for help. Any mechanical folks in the Ryde area who drink beer, and can take off and replace wheels...this one's for you!!
