As far as asking cops about road rules regarding motorcycles and riding them i've got very little confidence.
I've asked 4 different police men about filtering through stopped traffic.

The answers have been
2 confident illegals, and
2 semi-confident allowed.

*EDIT - oh yeah, add to that, in my 2day Ls course the guy at Honda Lane Cove said you can, but it's risky because a car might move lane etc etc
and
the guy at my Ps course at Rouse Hill said the same thing.

But other bikers say to me it's illegal but they do it anyways....... I always split to the front of stopped traffic when commuting, but never past a police car, not that I've ever heard of someone getting a ticket for it.

Resume normal transmission, sorry about the hijack. ;)

I'm watching the muppet movie as I type this (don't ask) and miss piggie says to kermit

"Kermit, whisper swet nothings into my ear"
Kermit says
"Motorcycle Cop"

What you should do, is ask someone who actually knows.

From the Vicroads site

Lane splitting
You must drive with your vehicle completely within a lane. Riding between lines of moving vehicles is illegal and dangerous.

which would make filtering stationary traffic legal as it is NOT mentioned

 yeah I know

Honestly I'm not worried either way, and the romance of the conflicting opinions and here say is fun :D

At the end of the day I'm still going to do it if it's illegal, and if it isn't then all well and good.

Anyone in NSW care to clarify the law?
