spark plug sizes

Post by andew »

hey guys long time since ive been here
just letting u guys know that i serviced my own bike 2 weeeks ago
so went to peter stevens in melb
bought 2 liters of oil and 2 plugs :D
not a prob pulled the tank off (so i turned the fuel tap to off) put the plugs in tank back on didnt turn the fuel back on
put the oil in went fine for about 3 or 4km then it died coz the fuel was still off so i turned it on kept goin for about 20km and the bike started running really shit under 5,000rpm :?
found out the plugs were TOO LONG and they were squashed by the piston :x
so thanx to the guys at peter stevens i nearly put a whole through my piston and worse of all they were irdium tipped they were like $20 each
but then again it states on the recipet to check all parts are correct before fitting. has anybody had this same problem?
also does anyone know were to get these "TWO BROTHERS" dual exhaust from?

Without being rude, it's your responsibility to check you have the right parts. Most people in spares dept work off part numbers and diagrams, so whatever they see on the computer is what you get. Even if you know it's the wrong part!

I have had a one case where I asked for a 150/60 R17 tyre and they fitted a 150/70 R17 to my bike, I didn't realise until later on. I left at it that, I probably should have yelled at them at least... but didn't...

They only advice I can offer is make sure you know what your buying, do your research and have your part numbers ready. As for the piston I think you'll have to cop it.

Did you not notice the difference in length when you removed the original plugs ?
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
