Rego Label holders
Does anybody know the law in regards to rego label holders.
When Dizzi did her P's test they said it was meant to be attached to the number plate(which it is in a tube holder, not one that spins though) but not on the side of the bike like mine is near the chain in a flat holder. Even the instructor said it's fine in the tube, he has one on his bike.
We were pulled over by the cops today for an RBT and they said to her that it's not allowed to be in a tube even one that spins around so you can see the whole label. You have to have a flat one.
So who knows what is the proper rule and have you been done for your rego label being in the wrong spot.

Re: Rego Label holders
In Victoria last I looked the rego label holder needed to be displayed on the left hand side towards the front of the bike, made no mention of flat or tubed holders, but that's ages ago I looked now and really such a non issue it's not something i've bothered reviewing.

Re: Rego Label holders
Oh forgot to add, they said to her that it is illegal to have the tube and that he wouldn't book her for it today but to get a flat one
. They didn't say anything about mine being on the side of the bike.
After reading the RTA link(thanks Ron)

so isn't a tube suitable for the label?Suitable label holders may be purchased from most automotive retail suppliers

Re: Rego Label holders
that is total and utter bullshit. The rego label simply has to be displayed in a manner that allows it to be inspected/read clearly. Tube holders do this just as easily as flat holders. Heaps of trail-bike riders place the rego label around the top of a fork-tube and use clear contact to hold it in place.ijuschill wrote:..... they said to her that it's not allowed to be in a tube even one that spins around so you can see the whole label. If you get told again by a copper that a rego tube is not allowed, just ask him/her *exactly* what section of the Motor Traffic Act does it contravene ??

Re: Rego Label holders
sounds like a good thing I didn't come for a ride jus!
don't think I would have passed an RBT anyway :/
pulled up at a servo for fuel on my way home this afternoon, HWY patrol pulled into the fuel bowser next to mine. HWY cop checked out the bike quickly, (admiring) then he saw the burnout marks on the rear tyre from when I "scrubbed it in" and he shook his head at me and laughed
no dramas from him though.

Re: Rego Label holders
Whilst not technically illegal, going by the road traffic acts, when I questioned qld transport and the police they said that as they couldn't see all the details in one view..ie they had to rotate the holder or, god forbid, move their bodies to see it, they classed them as illegal.
Problem as I see it is the same as the intergrated tail light/indicator units..once they see something they can pull you over for they start looking at everything else on the bike.
