My 18yo son is not interested in bikes ever since he hit a tree on his peewee 50 at age 5
as for my girls, the keeper has said NO WAY IN HELL! :o I am sure she will come around

I would do what my parents did 25 years ago, they said go & do rider training & you can get your bike license, simple as that.
Back then there was no compulsory rider training & the only rider training being done was Stay Upright with Warrick Shuberg at Amaroo.
It was the best thing I could have ever done at the time & I am sure it has contributed to my still being here today. I have done half a dozen courses since then as refreshers & its amazing how much stuff you forget over time.

So If my little ones were to head down that path, it would be a few courses over & above what is now the norm with compulsory rider training.

My 17 year old son has been riding dirt bikes around our property for years ..... I told him to get his bike Licence as soon as he was allowed, because the rules change all the time and it is only going to get harder to get a licence......... He has his Red "P" car Licence and his Bike "L" at the moment...... Truck and Boat licence are next on the agenda....

Only thing is he hasn't riden his KLX250 road/trail for about 2 months. Only one mate rides and all the others have cars, so they are all too busy running around in cars atm. Hopefully he will get his "P" soon......

He turns 18 just before Motogp 2010, so mid year he will be getting a LAMS road bike and joining me for his first of many trips to the Island.

It's either this way or I could wrap him in cotton wool and lock him in his bedroom

That's if he even wants to by then, but I'm hoping getting some roadcraft in a cage (he'll have proper training, not the crappy RTA lessons) will set him in good stead when/if he starts road riding - he'll have proper rider training too.
100% agree with this, exactly what we'll be doing...

asoon as my little man is 3 he gets his dirt bike, when he gets abit older ill get him a pocket rocket detuned that is until he is older. after that its up to him aswell as my daughter, if she wants to ride thats fine. BUT same Rob, they will both be doing rider training b4 they get on the road with there licence. But with my brother, father, father inlaw& mother inlaw and myself riders. I think they will be well looked after and taught to respect the machines and the road.

We were going to give Casey his PeeWee for his 3rd birthday but have decided to wait until he's 4, when, hopefully he's a little less stubborn and more responsive to the appropriate verbal commands.... I won't hold my breath tho.

Yeah, 3's a tad early for us, I'd want him well out of the 'NO' phase before putting him on a peewee....

lmao! my little man knows NO! and he knows that if we say something he does it. 3 is old enough for him. but then again we will see he might get it earlier or later, it all depends really.
