Hey aardvark, How frustrating does it get knowing that people will always form a negative opinion on all police just because they have gotten in trouble over something that has come about because of their own actions anyway? I'm not having a go at anyone here either, its a legit question.

I was originally going to pm this question to you and maybe you could still shoot me some advice privately aswell as post whatever opinion you want here. I wouldn't mind it for the obvious reason that i'm a very, very, soon to be sworn member. Its obviously relevent to the topic "are we trying to get everyone to hate us?"

I only ask because i see your not worried about defending the job, but i've got to say with my level of inexperiance (being none)when it comes to giving my opinion i'm choosing to be a little more......................cautious (for now).

Probably the only opinion i've got to contribute here is that you stuffed up and you got spanked, either take it like a man and bend over, or take it like a man and fight it (in court). But for the love of god don't just sit around bitching about it. Whinging about a fine you've recieved to an online forum is as productive as trying to solve a rubiks cube by pissing your pants.

what's going on with this forum lately?

Nelso - I agree that fine sucks. Very steep for the mistake. I'd send a letter too, but I doubt you'll get lucky.

Clay - aardy is well respected here (despite being a cop) and known for providing a real-world practical perspective on the goings on in the police force - though not necessarily in NSW.
I think a chill-pill might be necessary - you're too young to be so cynical.

Just like agruing with the ref when he has awarded the opposition a penalty........... No matter how wrong his decision, he is still right because he has the whistle.......... The facts are the facts and we should not try and cloud the facts with logic and common sense, should we ???

Rob, I guess you could keep reminding yourself of how many times you have done something wrong on the road and got away with it.... might help ease the frustration of this bullshit fine.........

As a trainee, discretion is not taught and is not accepted in any practical assessments.

Do the crime and serve the time.... laws the law.

I took my boat out a couple of weeks ago and realised in the morning I had left the new rego label at work in Guildford 45 mins each way. So, got in the car, left the boat on the drive and spent the best part of 2 hrs in a return trip so I could legally drive to the boat ramp 5 minutes away from home. Just ain't worth the risk.
We are all guilty of something, just we don't all get caught, if you do suck it up and move on.

Advice that I reckon some of you fellas need to take.

If it was me, I may have been a little embarrassed (spelling) to have posted the thread in the first place

Please, this is normally a fun happy place to be, too many people laately are way to serious, lighten up.

Enjoy the freedom :kuda:

I've seen coppers breaking the law quite often. Yet somehow they're above it.
Try reading section 305 of the Australian Road Rules.

dutch80au wrote:I was originally going to pm this question to you
No need to discuss it in a PM, unless you want to, as I'm more than happen to voice my opinion publicly. I have my opinion based on my life experience, based on some of the horrors I've seen and not discussed with anyone other than the people I work with, based on the visions I've taken with me to bed at night and the idealistic hope that I can somehow keep my family and those I care about from having to experience those same things.

I take a great deal of pride in knowing that what I do actually does make a difference. I haven't always been a motorcycle copper, it's just that at this point in my career it suits me. Unlike the firey's and ambo's, people aren't always happy to see us turn up. But you know what? I've never let that bother me. When I became a copper I lost a lot of friends, not sure why, don't care. The friends I still have are the ones I give a shit about, and trust me, if I consider you a friend then I'm as loyal a friend as you could ever hope for.

And this is the part that burns my arse the most. People who just complain. There's always another option yet for some reason people want to jump online and sook it up. It seems no one is prepared to have a crack at making things "right". I'm the first person to tell someone that if they think they've been unfairly done by with regards to some fine they've received then they should take the matter to court. It's your right. For some reason people think that magistrates are all pro-police and that's why they don't want to go to court. Funny that most coppers consider magistrates to be pro-defendant. Most magistrates tend to look at things the way I like to think I see them.... based on some point of law and without emotion.

I'm always happy to argue my point in court, as I don't believe I've ever handed a fine out unfairly or unjustly, and I will always support your right to have a matter heard in court if you ask me. However, you wont get an ounce of sympathy from me if you've cocked up, been dealt with in the appropriate manner, and decide to blame someone else for your mistake.

I said the line was a classic. And it rings true because of the hypocrisy and double standards that coppers have.
AUSTRALIAN ROAD RULES - REG 305

305—Exemption for drivers of police vehicles

(1) A provision of the Australian Road Rules does not apply to the driver of a police vehicle if:

(a) in the circumstances:

(i) the driver is taking reasonable care; and

(ii) it is reasonable that the provision should not apply; and

(b) if the vehicle is a motor vehicle that is moving—the vehicle is displaying a blue or red flashing light or sounding an alarm.

Note—

"Motor vehicle" and "police vehicle" are defined in the dictionary.

(2) Subrule (1) (b) does not apply to the driver if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable:

(a) not to display the light or sound the alarm; or

(b) for the vehicle not to be fitted or equipped with a blue or red flashing light or an alarm.
Yeh, double standards. How they should get away with not wearing a seatbelt or talking on a mobile is beyond me. Even with those provisions.

Typical, a copper chooses what he wants something to mean, completely disregarding the context of it...

Yes, you said the line was from a movie - "I don't drink with coppers" - fair enough, hilarious quote. However, you went on to qualify it and personalise it with "and that's why".So if you didn't mean that YOU won't drink with coppers, then "that's why" what?

As for hyprocrisy and double standards, here's a couple more stereotypical examples:
The doctor who tells you to quit smoking and to lose some weight, then goes to grab some takeaway and have a smoke.
The mechanic who tells you to check the oil more often then drives home from work in an unroadworthy piece of crap.

Hypocrites are everywhere. Has nothing to do with how good or bad they are at their job.

Fair enough, good point. I can agree with that.

Sort of pisses me off when other tradies say all scaffers are cowboys. Just because there are some muppets out there, we all get thrown in the same boat.

I still think more discretion should be used, in the case of traffic offences at least.

Just got off the phone to a mate and I brought this $500 fine up, how I thought it was ridiculous. He told me he was riding home from picking his bike up from a service the other day. No learner plates on and doing 70+ in a 60 zone, just turned 60 from an 80 zone. Unmarked pulls him up, discovers he's on his learners. Has a chat to him about how it's $110 (I think he said) and a point for not displaying plates, but he lets him off with a warning, and with regards to the speeding, tells him he's got to slow down too. It's a notorious spot where coppers wait for people coming out of the 80 zone in to the 60 and still doing near 80.

Must've been a fellow rider or he's just one decent cop. Couldn't believe it.

wooow this shit is getting intense...i think the title of the thread should be "are politician trying to get everyone to hate them" they are the real scums on the planet, they are the ones who give aardvark the job, he is just doing his job.Its not fair to hate coppers just because they didn't let you (nelso) off for a offense as aardvark said its your(nelso's) responsibility by law.

But I must say that 500$ is fucking bullshit! Fines and punishment don't save lives, education does! No reasonable person would believe this fine is acceptable, where does the rest of the 450$ go to? i dont see much of it redistributed onto the roads, penno rd is still fucking shit. Not to high schools i used crappy old textbooks and we see teachers striking nearly every term. Not to the poor uni students like me struggling with our $20 000 HECs fees. And we should just take it up the arse when i hear them on paid leave, being driven by chauffeur and STILL BEING PAID AFTER THEY RETIRE WHY WHY WHY???????

Fuck this shit i say our country needs major reforms and fast, its time to vote some motherfuckers out of parliament.

Instead of just nelso going to see his local member of council why don't we rally as many of our fellow KSRC crew that would show them, wollongong would be a nice cruise, no point sitting on our arses and ranting on the forums!
When i grow up i want a ZX6R just like Rob Racer...

Got that right.....

Both sides of the story are lagit & have fair arguments.
The fine seems a little harsh for the crime but as ardy says its not the cops fault about the the price of the fine.

I manage about 20 staff(nothing compared to the police force) & I get much better results when I give them a little kick up the ass for a little fuck up rather than going off my head & trying to ream them another hole.
Come Friday afternoon when I really need the guys & girls to get their shit together & get the cars out, they are happy to give a little extra & show a little respect.
But if I was a ball breaker & punished them every time they made a little mistake they would all be walking out at knock off time saying 'fuck him'.
Its easy to write the rules in black & white but its a little harder to put reality into black & white.
Personally I think the cop would have got the same if not better result if he had just written a warning rather than give the fine, but its obvoiusly not that easy. Insurance & stuff as mentioned...

I am from the old days when a hand shake was as good as a signature.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Lucky for me its not my problem.
The only problem I have today/tonight is weather to put lemon or lime in my Corona.... :kuda:

hey sieko..... bootyshake.gif ha ha.....

Me & Steph are coming down the GOR soon. We will drop in.

Great thread by the way.
Its been a very entertaining afternoon......
